Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.

The series features a stellar cast led by Academy Award nominee Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle and Nate Mann, who are joined by Raff Law, Academy Award nominee Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook and Ncuti Gatwa.

Hailing from Apple Studios, "Masters of the Air" is executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Television, and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone. Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey co-executive produce alongside Playtone’s Steven Shareshian. In addition to writing, Orloff co-executive produces. Graham Yost also serves as co-executive producer. Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Dee Rees and Tim Van Patten serve as directors.

The nostalgia of Band of Brothers and The Pacific hit me like a brick. Guess every decade is destined to have their own great WW2 miniseries. The 2000s has Band of Brothers, the 2010s had The Pacific, and now the 2020s had Masters of the Air.

They made the clouds and sky’s look like heaven and hell at the same time, the visuals and colors used are so stunning in this series

One of the few intros I am not skipping. Same as with Pacific and BoB.

Please, PLEASE Apple, don’t stop making shows like this one. It’s so positively old-fashioned, so grand and sweeping and cinematic. Don’t let this be TVs final salute. Keep going.

My grandfather served as a Staff Sergeant Bombadier in the 702d Bombardment Squadron, flying in 25 missions. He passed at 88 15 years ago on January 12. He was a Master of the Air.

Officially the intros to all three of these series just make me extremely thankful of what all the men, women, and children went through throughout this vast conflict. The world truly is forever in their debt.

the music... omg... chills and tears.

Hanks and Speilberg have truely out done themselves with this series.

This will be a difficult one for me to watch. My father was a B-17 Navigator in the 100th Bomb Group. He didn't talk much about his experiences, so I expect this series to fill in a lot of information for me.

I've heard hundreds of intros during my life but this is easily the best one. Brings tears to my eyes every time.

FYI, just talked to a WWII vet who was a pilot for the 503rd bomb squadron. He said masters of the air was “excellent” and was exactly how the action appeared back in WWII. It didn’t have any unnecessary added Hollywood action

Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Hacksaw Ridge, Greyhound, Dunkirk, and Masters of the Air truly do Justice to WWII. May we never forget.

This opening hit me hard, brought back so many memories of Band of Brothers and the Pacific. I wish my late father were still alive to watch this with me. I hope it's just as good as BoB and the Pacific were.

One of the best opening title themes for a show I’ve heard in a long time. Keeps the somber feel of the Pacific and Band of Brothers while also giving me James Horner vibes from Apollo 13’s score. I hope this guy gets to do even more big stuff!

After watching the first two episodes, I find myself loving this title sequence! It has echoes of Band of Brothers and Pacific, but stands on it's own two feet. They've nailed the soundtrack once again!

The Army (Band of Brothers), the Marines (The Pacific), and now the Air Force (Masters of the Air). Hoping there'll be a miniseries about the Navy and the Coast Guard.

So appreciative of all that put so much into making this film to honor these men. My grandfather, George McKee, was a B-17 pilot for the 390th which was one of the three bomb groups (along with the 100th and 95th) that made up the 13th combat wing; consequently, he flew in a number of the missions detailed in Masters of the Air. When the book came out in 2007 he told me it was the most accurate description he had read of what they experienced. He made a career of the Air Force serving 36 years and rising to the rank of Lieutenant General (he started as a private and air mechanic in 1940). In 1973 he became commander of the 8th Air Force. For those interested in the history of these brave individuals the 8th Air Force Museum just outside of Savannah, GA is fantastic. The 390th Bomb Group also has a museum in Tucson, AZ.

My great-Uncle flew B-24s. First, from North Africa into Italy and southern Europe. Was shot down but escaped capture. Returned to the US, then was deployed to SE Asia to bomb the Japanese. Had two other B-24s shot to shreds from under him, but kept returning to fly missions. 69 missions, 3 Purple Hearts. Died peacefully a very old man in 1990 in his bed.

The unbridled reverence towards these heroes is felt heavily in this intro and throughout the series. This was done so well.
