Majority of Taiwanese support Taiwan’s status quo. Most at least 70% people think they are “Taiwanese”

Why is the sound quality so poor on the RTI side? I cannot understand what the reporter is saying.

At the very least we have to defend Taiwan for their computer chip industry.

China: We prefer to resolve this peacefully with Taiwan

Taiwan: I agree. We both have been at peace for over 80 years. Lets keep it that way.

If I were a Taiwan politician I would be seriously worried about this woman's
capitulation signals. She is blatantly saying defend yourself and then at the end of the rhetoric she says I an fully confident that USA will come to the aid of Taiwan. Really ?
Doesn't sound like it to me.

Well I believe in reciprocity. We need to give Hawaii back to the Hawaiians. China needs to get out of Tibet, Taiwan, and the Islands of South China Sea. Let these people have self determination. The planet has grown up, we all need to start behaving as such.

They could hold off china with tactical nuclear weapons.. however it is not required to provide nuclear weapons as the US has non nuclear weapons now which are as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb; these should be given to Taiwan in order to deter China.

A highly insightful and convincing analysis by Mastro. I would agree with it for the most part. Only I am not certain how committed the US would be to Taiwan's freedom. I trust the government to take an ill- and short-sighted view to the detrement of US security in the mid- to long-term.

If our president would send his kid to defend there, it could be different... Otherwise, why should rest of us sending our kids to the battle field?

Taiwan's handover to China should be handled the same asHongKong. Only less than 50% of Taiwanese oppose unification with China. The biggest issue here is american interference. The whole world watched America's ESCAPE  from Afghanistan. Everybody is more informed and educated like prior to US invasion of Vietnam.  America is bankrupt and can't afford trillions in war expenditures. So let's all stand aside and alow the peaceful transition and unification of TAIWAN

China should consider that the American withdrawal from Afghanistan is in part intended to allow Afghan and neighboring animosities to shift to other infidels, like the Chinese. The withdrawal also allows the United States to shift resources to the Pacific and thus complicate Chinese military calculations.

China might be able to invade Taiwan now. The question is would its navy and air force prevail in maintaining reasonably safe sea lanes between the mainland and Taiwan to sustain its land forces in Taiwan. Taiwan forces will hope to be receiving news of Chinese air and naval losses to buttress a longer insurgency than the Chinese force had planned for. The air and naval battle for those resupply lines could go on for some time, as did the battle of the North Atlantic. Taiwanese land defenses need to think in terms of maintaining resistance through that period. The resistance might, with clever communications, be able to provide targeting information for stand off platforms to strike. Part of the plan could also include relocation of some forces to allied nations for reclaiming Taiwan after the stranding and reduction of Chinese invasion forces.

Those of us would say yes to defend Taiwan, we shall review our history since 1950. When China didn't have any air force nor naval force, but they tired with US lead UN 16 countries forces by forcing us to sign at 3-8 line for cease fire. You can google the famous remark of 3 wrong by our general. The take over process appears to be inevitable. Question is: will you send your kids to fight this war? This is a question to every American, regardless you like or not.

Keyword “may” meaning they could if they wanted to also that’s like saying US “could” improve their policies to improve American lives but they won’t.

The PLA must unite China once and for all. Xi is showing weakness- there is one China. The Chinese people must be united by force if need be
