The government on Taiwan (1912) is older than the PRC (1949), so PRC belittling Taiwan as as lost child is ridiculous

Not gonna lie... Whoever came up with the idea to make these Cold War plane to drone planes... Is quite ingenious

I think China is looking at this wrong. They could make a fortune selling these planes to collectors.

Took 9 minutes to get to "use old jets as drones." Still, I enjoyed the video.

They still have to take off from a runway

It's impossible to invade another country by aircraft- It is the sea that matters.

I mean Russia’s “Special Military Operation” going on in Ukraine (and Ukraine’s “Reverse Special Military Operation” in the Kursk Oblast of Russia as of writing) has shown that just because something is “old” doesn’t make it “obsolete”… And if it IS “obsolete”, it can still be effective, or at least halfway-useful when paired against the lack of an alternative. Both sides have been using odds and ends from the Cold War and prior to varying levels of effectiveness. Some extreme examples would include firearms dating back to _the late 1800’s, _ like Maxim Guns that have proven a useful tool for the kind of slow, attritional combat much of the frontline has developed into (that doesn’t really have a modern equivalent to speak of).

The fact that they are resorting to old equipment to militarize indicates that their situation is bad

As the saying goes, 'quantity has a a quality all its own'. Using swarms of dumb weapons to soak up missiles is a smart strategy, finding a last use for weapons that would otherwise be scrapped. That's the problem for Taiwan, overwhelm. As well as weapons, China has millions of soldiers to throw at the problem, and I suspect they care as much for the lives of their soldiers as the Russians do for theirs. I think the solution for Taiwan is to go over the top with defensive missiles - the porcupine approach, make the cost of taking them too high. Also, they need effective deterrents. Nukes are probably a step too far, but demonstrating the ability to use the same overwhelm tactics against key targets like the Three Gorges dam could work. Having said that, I hope they can work out their differences and just accept the war is long over and they are both different places now. The ROC should accept they will never replace the PRC, and the PRC should accept a new country has formed off their coast and they aren't getting it back short of a Phyrric victory. I doubt that will happen though, politics always trumps common sense.

Nice of China to telegraph their plans. Taiwan is expected to have over 200 F16 fighter jets before 2027. For an F16 that flight of old jets would be a Turkey shoot, and all they'd need is support from one F35 equipped US Carrier Group to take care of any more modern Chinese aircraft that are escorting the J6s to try to intercept those F16s.

China like always putting "Quantity over quality"

This sounds like a good strategy. The antiquated aircraft will use up a lot of air-superiority resources. Even if these antiques are horribly out-matched by an F-35, it doesn't change the fact that an F-35 is useless _ONCE IT'S OUT OF MUNITIONS._ Same for SAMs. And for all we know, it won't _JUST_ be antiques, it'll have some more contemporary aircraft hidden in the swarm, getting lost in the radar noise.

Although turning all of those J-6 (and possibly J-7) fighter planes into diversionary and suicide drones sounds like a great strategy, I have to wonder how many of them are of flight worthy status? Nevermind whether or not the drone control hardware has been installed and proven to work on these Cold War era planes, how much maintenance has been performed on them? Does the PLAAF still have spare parts for these hypothetical drones that were made in the last century? Isn't the PLAAF busy enough keeping their *current* fleet of aircraft in operational readiness?
