Gone in less than 90 seconds: Catalytic converter theft caught on camera

It only took 90 seconds for three thieves to steal a catalytic converter in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood earlier this month. Surveillance video shows how quickly it was stolen.

To the people sympathizing for the criminals, let me say. I had a few years when I was basically homeless. I did have a roof of sorts over my head but no utilities, no food, no money for gas, etc. But yet I never once begged for money or stole.

I'd have no problem dropping the car on all three of them. Someone has to be buying all of these stolen converters - time for the state to put the kibosh on all these operations.

I liked the one where the owner was sleeping in his truck, and awoke to someone under his truck cutting out his catalytic converter. The owner of the truck shot him twice, and then used his truck to drag him down the street. A truck driver saw this, and phoned it in. A hero, as far as I'm concerned.

Let's all agree that if we are ever a jury member of someone on trial for killing a thief caught in the act, we vote NOT GUILTY. No matter how much pressure they apply, stick with not guilty.

This just happened to me yesterday. They basically totaled my car because the cat is three thousand dollars. My car is worth 2k. No way to get to work and no money for another car. I wish these people cared how much hardship they put on people. I'm screwed and don't know what to do and I know I'm not the only one.

So why in the world do breaker yards not have to get proof that the car is even written off or just had a catalytic converter replacement just purchased before this is handed in is beyond me. Governments need to stamp this out and stamp on these people.
