To be the best golfer you can be, it’s important to prepare the body, so you can meet the physical challenges of hitting a golf ball. This is true for golfers of all ages but particularly relevant for senior golfers. As you pass 50 years of age, if you neglect to invest some time in your flexibility and mobility, then your golf swing will likely suffer as a result.

Typical swing characteristics, which might become evident in your golf swing include early extension, flipping, over the top transition and poor balance, to name just a few. Injuries will also become more common as your flexibility deteriorates. The good news is, even as you approach your senior years, you can still maintain and even improve your mobility.

Stretching should be carried out after warming up and not before. Warmer muscles are much more responsive to stretching and cold muscles can be easily injured. Begin with a jog or even a brisk walk, to increase the heart rate and blood flow throughout the body. It’s a good idea to stretch after every round of golf too, rather than just sit down and relax.

This is an excellent video Glen for senior golfers where you recommend excercise to do after a round of golf! I have a routine of exercises that I do with the exercise ball and floor prior to playing golf, but none such as these for after the round I will definitely archive this valuable piece of information for future use! Well Done Glen!

Two years ago I found out that both of my hips are bone on bone and require hip replacements. I had my right hip done two years ago and it is much better now. My left I plan on getting it done in March 2025. I will diligently do the hip portion of this video to improve mobility. My goal is to lean forward legs crossed and get my elbows on the ground within 1 year. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to improved mobility in my left hip next year so I can clear my hips better on the downswing.

Definitely when I was 30, but not at 61. Some of these starting positions seem impossible to get into much less doing the stretch. For example there is no chance in Haitis I could sit crisscross applesauce. Having said all that if there are people older than me who are able to do these stretches I’m impressed and a little bit inspired.

Thank you Glen for some excellent exercises. I hope I will make the effort to actually do them regularly.
I am 80 years old & would benefit from doing them daily.
I will now watch your warm up routine .
I appreciate your informative videos which should really help the club golfer.

Good start, however I have a replacement knees so upper back exercise is out of the routine. Wished that had been a modified exercise shown.

In the “open book” exercise, put bottom hand on top of knees, to hold knees down on the floor.

Would the stretches be different for anyone younger?

If I could get in those positions, I wouldn't need the stretches.
