Alien Romulus Review! 🤬

Alien Romulus is terrible! Don’t let Fede Alvarez touch another alien or xenomorph movie ever again. Horror is dead on planet LV426 or wherever the hell this movie is. Put Ridley Scott back in control of the alien franchise.

This movie was made to appease those who could not comprehend Prometheus. It is a filler movie just like Alien 3, that's all. Here is an example of why I say that. The Hybrid at the end. We have seen this situation already. Dr. Shaw C-Sectioned her hybrid out and locked it in a room. Oh wait, "that's from Prometheus, so it's not canon, " according to those people. These are the same people who never noticed that Lambert has no clothing on when Ripley goes to rescue her only to find her dead. These are the same people who haven't watched the first film on HDTV and have never tried pausing it in the rare scenes featuring the Xeno in lighting. The human skull underneath it's translucent dome is clearly there. The female genitalia is also right in front of you in Aliens on the facehugger in the lab when they poke at the glass. Prometheus is canon. Some fans can't accept it. Unfortunately, those fans have wallets. So we get Romulus.

I was on the edge of my seat most of the movie. It was a thrill ride. I didn’t analyze the movie, I just wanted to have fun. The only part I wish was better was the hybrid getting blown out, it was too dark to see. I swear those stupid little facehuggers are dastardly!

Romulus was very comic-bookish. - At some scenes I just laughed out loud because they copy-cat straight from the original movies. Its just another gen Z cast modern movie.

Just another case of 20 something year old to 40 year olds without an original thought trying to remake / rebrand hit classics for their generations. Somehow they feel that everyone will forget the original classics because their versions are more to date.
You can tell that the only reason Ridley Scott's name is on the producer list is because he got a nice fat check for it.

Yeah, so I fucking hated Prometheus, I think Ridley Scott was drunk when he made it, and it's sad to see the magical black goo make a return. Preggo girl injects it into herself for....reasons. And of course an Engineer/Xeno hybrid pops out. I couldn't help but think that Ridley Scott pushed this idea onto Fede, but who knows. I just know that it ruined whatever good came before it. 4/10.

I have seen every Alien movie on the big screen. I will see this one in the theaters as well.

I agree with you, we didn’t like it, and after we left the theater, we couldn’t remember any of the characters names. They talk about it being a horror movie and being shocking was totally wrong. All stuff we seen before Nothing new and the ending was nothing new as well.

I appreciate the delivery of your opinion on this movie. It honestly really sank my heart to be be disappointed by it. On a general level, I agree with your assessment - especially about the end. However, my one deviation of opinion would be that I didn't mind the android in this one. That was the only character in the whole film that I didn't either feel annoyed hatred toward or complete apathy for. There was definitely inspired elements of strong creativity in this, but ultimately, I agree. It was, yet another, Alien franchise flop. Damnit, James Cameron! Why did you have to raise the bar so damn high??

why is no one talking about the ridiculous scenes with the face huggers and the temperature? and the alien catching and saves her in the elevator to make her a host? like wtf is going on with these scenes? they manage to outrun them in several scenes and they forgot about the acid that where supposed to make a hole in the ship cuz they where so far down in the spaceship. like when the gravity came on again, why didn't the acid go through then? all the newer alien movies doesn't get that your not supposed to explain origin to a horror story, that's when the horror dies. let it be a mystery and let it speak for itself.

There were definitely good parts to the movie, but ultimately I wasn’t super satisfied.
Many liken it to ‘Rogue One’ for the Alien franchise, but I’d say it’s more like ‘The Force Awakens’, in the sense that it essentially rehashed old plot/story beats as a way of trying to rekindle old fans. Yes, Prometheus was somewhat flawed; but ultimately it did something different and deeply expanded the alien series Mythos.
On the other hand, this is an Alien movie that simply combines plot points/story beats from Alien, Aliens, and Alien Resurrection, and from a creative standpoint, that’s not amazing. The director likened aspects to Alien: Isolation, but we already have that, just like we have Alien, Alien2 etc. we don’t need it again, tell a creatively different story with the universe.

I've never seen another alien movie. And I didn't like the story or characters. But the horror was done really well.

Saw it two nights ago with great anticipation. Agree it was terrible. As flawed as Prometheus and Covenant were, they were way better than this box ticking exercise.
