WHAT IS EMOTIONAL BLINDNESS? | Autistic Guy Explains Alexithymia

Welcome to another episode of Autistic Guy Explains! This time around we will be explaining Alexithymia (also know as emotional blindness)! This is gonna be a tough one so stick around!

I should first state (because I didn't state it in the video) that having alexithymia does not make you a sociopath! Alexithymia is classified as a personality trait that seem to primarily affect people with autism spectrum disorder (like me). It is complicated and can make having personal relationships difficult which is why I decided to talk about it today. When I get confronted by an emotional conflict or something happens that I can’t figure out and I know it’s strong I either shut down and can’t talk or I feel incredibly nauseous and start wrenching. Then I know my emotions are deep but i can’t identify it but I feel it physically and my body is reacting to it.

Oh boy. I often struggle with pinpointing my own emotions; everything is like a complex mix. If someone asks me how I feel, I would probably respond with the general ones at most. Maybe your video has told something that can help me learn about myself.

1:5 i agree, i think emotional collor blindness is more like it. its not that there arnt emotions its just that we cant see/understand them.

I also have that, ,condition'' too, but l tend to be more apathetic than empathetic most of the time . Plus l kinda would hang a bit more with people of my gender or sex (however you wish to call it) growing up, l don't know why ? Maybe l wasn't good with speaking or hanging out with women, because l was a bit more used to speaking with men and stuff like that . So in basic terms l am kinda the opposite of you when it comes to that part .

This is very interesting! I've heard of this before, but it appears I didn't do enough research. (Articles were vauge) I learned a lot in this video.
