In this video, we’re going to talk about what you need to know if you have high cholesterol on keto. The American Heart Association guidelines actually state that “total cholesterol is not significantly associated with heart disease.” Your body makes cholesterol to make hormones, cell membranes, bile, and vitamin D.

Total cholesterol is really LDL, HDL, and triglycerides combined. Whenever a person gets a cholesterol test, they may also want to get an advanced lipid profile. This is an advanced test that measures the two different types of LDL.

The two types of LDL are large buoyant and small dense (sdLDL-C). The type of cholesterol that can be dangerous is the small dense (sdLDL-C). The small dense type may be a better marker for predicting future potential heart problems and a better indicator of inflammation inside of the arteries. The small dense type of LDL comes from a high-carb diet.

By doing the healthy version of keto, you can get into ketosis and start burning fat. There will be certain times where your cholesterol goes up and down. But, as long as you keep your carbs low, you’ll get more of the large buoyant LDL and not the small dense type.

A few potential causes of inflammation in the arteries:
• Seed oils
• Glucose
• Smoking
• Junk food
• Low vitamin E

I'm tempted to list Dr. Berg as my primary doc. I've gotten more information from just a few of his videos than I have EVER gotten from any doctor I've seen in my whole life.

So interesting. I just had my blood test done and everything is fine but my dr wants to put me on statins because my LDL ( not the small type ) is high by his standard he thinks it’s genetic. I should have him watch this YouTube video because I refuse to take any drugs. I don’t take anything right now not even a Tylenol and I’m going to keep it that way. I’m almost 70 years old and proud to say I’ve never felt better in my life.

Mine has been 348 since I was 21. I am 57. I have NEVER had high blood pressure .. I have perfect heartbeat.
I never believed it would affect me. I have now lived a keto lifestyle for three years.. as I learned I adjusted diet, exercise and breathing..meditation etc.
I am in the BEST shape of my Life.
My brain is equivalent in response time and calculations as a 25 year old. . ( Brain Age tests)
This is important info .
Good Fortune to YOU!!! 🙏

I watched your videos years ago when you still had your little white board easel and not a whole lot of subscribers. I knew back then you were a born teacher! What I didn't know is that 4.5 million people would appreciate your talent as much as I did! Congrats! I'm also pleasantly shocked that you are providing all of these valuable lessons for free. You are a true hero Dr. Berg!!👍❤🙏

261 IS NOT CRAZY HIGH!!! Were you aware the about 20 yrs ago the base level was 250. The drug companies did their own study, lowered it to 200 so that millions more people would be eligible, thereby making them billions more.

I think high cholesterol and how the body deals with it is also determined by genetics. My grandma ate very well and always had high cholesterol. She lived alone and was healthy until passing at 99

Check out the Helsinki study. It showed that the higher your cholesterol, the longer you lived, especially in women.

Haha! That has been known for a decade. My LDL is super high and when they scoped my heart and arteries, the cardiologist said I have the arteries of a teenager. I'm 67 and have a clean diet. Lots of meat!

Best analogy I've heard is comparing Cholesterol to fire fighters. When there's a fire (inflammation) in the body and fire fighters (cholesterol) show up to put out that fire, you don't blame them for starting the fire in the first place.

My grandmother and uncle both have naturally high cholesterol AND also happen to be two of the healthiest most active people I know, my grandmother is 92 and still walks, drives, works in her yard etc my uncle is one of the hardest working men I’ve ever met, he has two jobs both of which are EXTREMELY physical...his T must be very VERY high...their doctors want them on statins, I advised against it—don’t mess with a good thing!!
