This is a video tutorial to show you all how to pick open a lock by creating lock picking tools made from paper clip. I know this video is 5 yrs old, but I just picked my first lock after watching this. A girl at my work locked her purse and belongings inside a metal cabinet and lost her key. I spent more than 10 min stripping a plastic coating off of two paperclips and went right to work. Didn't feel incredibly confident starting out, but when it released I felt like I had UNLOCKED a new life skill. Thanks for your clear demonstration.😂

This was a skill I learned as a kid. I was given a locked box on the premise that I had to get it open. It took me about 2 hours to pick it, I did not know how useful the skill would prove at the time. As an adult I rarely worry about losing keys, picks can be made from darn near anything. And If I cant pick it, a can of freon and a punch will make quick work of it.

Important to note that there is a trade-off between the methods. Raking is quite easy, and decently quick, but it can result in side-loading the pins, leading to lock degradation after repeated attempts. Picking them individually is slower and takes more skill, but it only uses vertical pressure on the pins, meaning that if it's done right, there should be no damage whatsoever to any lock. Both of them are fine for practice locks, but I'd recommend the latter for if you are trying to enter your house after losing the keys. also, keep an eye out for spool pins and other defensive mechanisms, as they can lead to a false set and require you to reset the lock. It can take quite a bit of finesse, but definitely possible.
