Grew up with discs but then they were all digitized into a plex server

I swear to god if you start driving up the price of vintage DVDs like you did to broken iPods

the way you went on about passwords for a moment I got scared you were about to go into an ad read for some password manager but no, you're just trying to promote better password discipline! love it!

Just FYI
If the dvd case has been sitting in someones storage for ages, it probably still smells faintly of mice to Frank - hence the obsession.

My nieces were over at our place and I had enough of them watching youtube so i got the VCR. The f-in VCR off the attic, got it running, and got a dusty old cardboard box full of disney classics, and that's what the kids watched for 3 days in 144p, and they liked it.

About ripping discs: Over here (Austria) it's actually legal, for personal use. As long as the data stays in the household, we're allowed to copy and do what we want, which is awesome.

You are now bringus studios' worst enemy.

17:59 The good thing about M*A*S*H is that it was recorded and edited without a laugh track in mind. It was only added in afterwards for the standard American audiences. BUT THE DISCS HAVE BOTH VERSIONS AND IT'S SO GOOD WITHOUT IT

This is LITERALLY my ideal dankpods vid - been collecting DVDs for almost 15 years at this point, never liked streaming and always had a feeling it was gonna mount a comeback especially in my generation (I’m currently 26). Ever since you bought that CD lot, I was interested in your take on DVDs so this is incredible

7:29 Go for the South Park Blu-Rays if you havent already, just for the simple fact they _still had_ all the original project files for all the pre-HD episodes and were able to re-render them (If you didn't know, all SP episodes after the pilot were computer-animated) in 1080p with minimal alteration. It's crazy to be able to watch episodes going back to _1997_ in such crisp quality.

Piracy has always been an access issue and discs let you be able to access a film whenever you wanted for a one off fee. The more online streaming platforms fail to realise that, the more people will bog off elsewhere

I love seeing people showing their DVD collection. It's always fascinating to see what they have. Also nice dog you got there. I've never seen a breed like that before. She looks so precious.

I love that streaming platforms like Disney Plus don't allow users to even pick a video quality. You'll just be watching something then BOOM 720p for the next half hour.

Grab the disks, rip them and put them onto a NAS like a TrueNAS. Run a Jellyfin or Plex on it and you are set up with your own weird little shows that are region specific and never on the Netflix with complete control over it.

And before someone argues piracy - it is legal in most places I know of to make backups for personal use. Which this falls under. It is only illegal to distribute it further. Which this does not fall under.

And yeah, agreed, Wheeler Dealers are absolute gold. And as a biker myself and Ewan McGregor fan, I do have to check out Long way around. And MASH is GOAT, and I say that as someone in their early 30s. Probably the best show there is.

When I was a kid the local shop was selling Star Wars DVDs with the remastered versions but also a second disc that had the original theatrical release versions. Such a treasure today!

Thank you for bringing frank into the video for us.

Also for ripping, arm (automatic ripping machine) takes a bit of setup, but then you can insert a disk into the computer, walk away, and come back in a hour with the video file in the correct folder.
