the reason I hate disney:

This movie was supposed to come out of Blue Sky studios, but for "reasons" Disney decided to shut it down alongside with the Nimona project. Fortunately, the movie managed to be released on Netflix, but animation quality seems to be the cost of it :(

edit: i made this video at 2 in the morning before the movie release because netflix clips looked unfinished and a bit disappointing. how the hell did it get almost million views. what.

Saving the dragon form for the more impactful scene was the better choice. Just like the improved character designs.

Honestly saving the dragon for the later scenes was the right choice

Disney didn’t have a hand in the final product at all. That’s the whole reason why Nimona being ‘resurrected’ by Netflix is such a big deal. Disney rejected the concept and it turned out to be a huge success

This movie could've seriously saved Blue Sky, had they lasted just a little longer before closing down

I actually really like the visual style of the Netflix version, sure it sacrificed some lighting but the flatter look really felt like a graphic novel come to life.

I don't really see an issue here. I think the movie looks beautiful.

I like the way Netflix showed the dragon, it showed how Nimona was getting angrier and more worried by the second, going from a otter to a wolf, then a rhino and when it was the last straw for her, into a huge dragon, all to protect Ballister ❤😊

I personally love the way they did it.
They saved a key transformation, the dragon, for a perfect time that had meaning and was more impactful. Because if I saw the dragon here, I wouldn't have the reaction I did later. Also this had nothing to do with Disney. Disney didn't have any creative liberties or changes. BlueSky was all under Fox, and something tells me this change was made after BlueSky was shut down.

The fact that nimona even survived is a miracle and I’m just glad we get to see a finished film

This is why all of the Blue Sky Studios Movies should be owned by Universal instead of Disney.

I dont really see why the quality is considered worse in the netflix version. The stylized shading on the netflix version gives it a little more personality, its not that i dont like the blue sky original, I just think the original version is a little more generic looking in terms of shading, whereas the netflix version looks a bit more like spiderverse with the shading

I honestly loved the cel-shaded look the movie's got, I think it fits the whole style more than realistic lighting

There are a few differences I found in the first shot:
• The lighting
• The cinematography
• The effects

I know that people blaming on Disney for the studio's shutting down, but I kindly blames Fox for ruining it's reputation with all these Ice Age films. You can thinks for Collision Course for destroyed the enitre studio's vision.

(Edit: Hot Take for Ninoma)
If Blue Sky still exist. as well The film was completely and released by Disney (20th Century), for theatres. It's could be a box-office bomb, along with Strange World and Lightyear. Over LGBT contents (mostly from these anti-woke people) like Ninoma themselves. Plus, Blue Sky with the "whole studio behind with Ice Age series". Some people could avoid the feature from that last statement and pandemic. Despite of possible good word of mouth, like Puss in Boots 2.

I actually really liked how it was animated. The way it looked sort of flattened was one of my favourite things about the movie. Like I REALLY enjoyed the style. Plus removing the dragon from this scene was the right decision. It would've been too much and it was quite impactful later on. Using the dragon twice wouldn't of worked for me because it looks like she only brought it into play out of desperation in the final cut, but if she brought it out earlier on, it would just make people question why she didn't use it from the beginning of the fight. It's because it was a last resort. She didn't want to use it because if the shape-shifting itself didn't solidify that she was a monster in their eyes, the dragon definitely would have, especially in mediaeval times. And she knew that. Which is why it was so impactful towards the end of the movie with the little girl and the sword.

Ha. That was a good change. That camera choice was smart because the chase had ended and it's cut to a wide view allowed you to see the ending to the high speed scene. If they had kept the zoom in while falling, it would undermine the aftermath scene and then it'd be easy to not notice Balister get knocked out. Camera work is the most basic of filmmaking knowledge

I don’t see an issue cause the movie was still good in the end

Nah, it would destroy the impact of her first dragon scene

They had to reanimate the movie from scratch.
