Need a New Identity? Tips on How to Reinvent Yourself!

At some point in our life we know we have changed. We accept that we must move on from the identity we once had and let go of the comfort of a life that can no longer be. But how do we reinvent ourselves and embrace the new life we find ourselves in.

In this video, I explain how to respond and reinvent yourself when you look in the mirror and realize that the life you had is no longer right for you – or perhaps that life is no longer available to you.

Have you had to go through one more or more personality changes? How did you adapt to that new you? Are you happy with the new identity you created?

This is such an interesting subject. I feel like I have been reinventing myself throughout my entire life & at the same time trying to find my true identity along the way. I have always embraced change. I am now 62 and feeling very content, happy and in my power but it has taken a very long time. When I turned 60, I quit my job working in the non profit arena (20 years) because I felt like my spirit was dying. This was a major move for me since I consider myself a very responsible person. My mom had passed two years prior. My son went off to college. I was going to give myself just 3 months to STOP before seeking work again. The three months ended up being one year. During that year, I hiked many trails & did a lot of shedding around my old identities..lol I started painting for the first time in my life & now I have started a new business that relates to painting & in the process of creating on-line courses & have created a YouTube channel. Two years ago, I would have been the last person to ever think I would be offering on-line painting classes. I'm in a good space. It's healing to release & allow old identities to go away. I feel the key is to keep moving, learning & growing spiritually.

Sometime in November last year, there was a major change in my life. Instead of getting depressed, I wrote handwritten notes to people I worked with telling each one how they made an impact on my life. I also sent a note to my boss telling him the only thing constant is change so I'll embrace it with joyful hope of making new adventures. He was so touched by the message, he asked if he can "steal" my mantra. I believe in constantly renewing my thoughts to move forward positively.

I’m in Texas. Too many tears to comment much as this subject hits straight to my heart. I’m 63, have felt 29 until recently. Downsizing, children leaving, don’t like change. 😢

Hit the nail on the head... I just found out that my "Dad" is not in fact that and everyone now is deceased... and I'm 61... blown away. I think honesty is always the best policy and thank God for the DNA tests now. I wish I'd known when I was young. It's really affected my mental health.

Currently 59 and in the process of creating the new me, preparing for 60 in April and the next season of my life. Going with the flow, holding on tight, and enjoying the adventure! Nothing stays the same and that can be a good thing. Looking forward to next.

You're so right to reflect on possibilities. It is a time of fluidity for me physically and in the ever-changing societal needs. A new group member at a fitness center in a new city and then having to isolate has given time to reflect and prepare for reemergence (whatever that will look like). 5 years ago looks completely different than today. Guess I need to stay open to new adventures as it seems they choose me instead of my searching for them:) Take care and thank you. D. in Nevada

We always feel free on a trip, because it’s not our everyday life. But it’s a thinking point.

My life is so different now I can't even find words to describe it - I have really felt alone in this struggle to start over; so it was nice to find this channel and realize maybe I am not an isolated case.
PS - I had meant to say Thank you!

🙋‍♀️Very profound !!! I’m 63 and feeling every year !! I’m starting to analyse my style, home, relationships, level of tolerance 😂 and am very encouraged by what I choose to watch on YT! Thank you! Plenty of time to do it all too, 5 married children so just me and hubby! We’re still in lockdown stage 4! Very hard but I’m reading lots of e-books. 🧡from Australia.

I felt such comfort when mentioned being estranged from your adult children. This is something i am experiencing now . My youngest son has not spoken to me for 2 years and i dont know why. We were very close when he was a child, but that changed when his father and i divorced and he went to live with his father. That was 20 years ago, so i dont know why he has stopped having any contact with me now. I was wondering if you could tell how to get access to the articles you mentioned to read on the subject, please. I love this video about reinvention/ being your true self. Its a place i find myself at now at 61. Keep the great videos coming. 🐝🐝😍😍😍

This sounds trite but can be really helpful: "Cultivate an attitude of gratitude." Journaling just 3 things daily has been recommended, even small basics like food, shelter, & strength to get out of bed, can start to open your eyes to what is good in your life. I'm thankful for Margaret & her vision to create a place where we are understood.

Really enjoyed this video, Thank You Margaret! Actually, I enjoy ALL of Sixty & Me! I'm getting ready to move out of my Sweetheart's home and live "on my own" (loosely defined as my adult son will be joining me for a brief time). I'm excited to pull things out of storage. purge and rediscover some of my things. Thank You for being a Ray of Sunshine, Margaret. Be Blessed :)

I can remember when my Mother was getting older that shop assistants would direct their questions towards me even though the matter in hand had to do with my her. I found this so rude that I would ignore them until they got the message.
A month or so ago when I was out shopping with my Daughter, I became aware that the same thing was happening. Only now they speak to my Daughter!
It's me they ignore! LOL!
