In this video Mike Mentzer explains why the popular notion of “more is better,” while having application to certain areas of life, is not the proper principle to apply to your bodybuilding training.

I could listen to this guy for hours and hours. A real legend.

I think there's also great analogies to business. More "busy work" (volume) doesn't necessarily earn you more money. Doing more of something substantial, new, different, and valuable - "intensity" - is what makes the big bucks. And surviving the hardest parts of a new business certainly requires recovery! :)

More is definitely better. More intensity. More recovery and growth days. 😁

More money, more sex...especially if you need more. With Heavy Duty training - more rest between sessions is better. Mike's main contribution to bodybuilding science: the concept of Recovery Ability. Recently, on a leg extension, I was doing 12 plates (not bad for 60 - I did more at 30). So instead of doing this exercise the next week (as I still train heard) I waited two weeks. Could I do the12 plates again? Better than that, I did 14 plates thanks to recovery.

The guy with the dumbbells at the beach 1:28 - reminds me of the guy at Lou Ferrignos gym in pumping iron ...! Lol

The bodybuilders with favorable genetics get psychological and social reinforcement from their interactions at the gym. That's primarily why they want to spend as much time there as possible. Also, THEY do not need to train hard to get larger, stronger muscles. Finally, they can earn money by convincing gullible, inexperienced trainees that they need not train hard either if they'll use Mr. Easy Gainer's "secret" workout program. (We want to look like him, right?)

Theres really no right answer to this question. Some people do need considerably more volume than others. So one cannot simply say that yes more is better, or no, more work is not better.

The more you train the less you gain. Seem counterintuitive but it's true 😆
