I have started using silicone as under the flange in the shower due to the fact it wont crack such as plumbers puddy over time. I also use a small amount of silicone on the lock nut below so there is no chance of it ever coming loose after install. Good Video!

Now I have fixed a bunch of second story shower bases at some apartments because the plumbers used plumbers putty on a fiberglass base, because it was to flexible, over time the putty cracked, and flooded the place below it !I see your base has a cast iron base so you shouldn't have a problem with flexibility especialy if you wet set the base in a bed of morter for support, other wise with that kind of drain assembly and fiberglass base you want to use silicone. if it's on a slab or no access from underneath just be carful so as not to have it come back and haunt

I had to take apart every drain in the hole complex and clean off plumbers putty and re fit ith silicone because of the flexibility issue ! Great video not trying to say it's wrong, some people may not know the difference in there shower base being metal or fiberglass , 👍🏻

This is the simple part…why does no one show how you fit and two part glue it to the main.
Nice job anyway.

I'm doing a new install with an Otay fitting that has a rubber seal. In my opinion it's a waste of money and difficult to get it to seal as it's designed. Problem is the drain pipe pushes the rubber sideways when you dropped the pan down on to the pipe. I'd rather just get another fitting such as the one you have because the fitting will slide over the pipe with the glue. Far easier than the one that I purchased with the rubber seal. I wish you would have showed dropping the pan down over your pipe. To me that's the trickiest part.

Hi there! Thank you so much for posting this! I have the exact same drain, however I am installing my own shower plan using sand and concrete mix as a preslope and a liner etc. I am thinking I may not be able to use this and have to use a flange instead? Or is a flange essentially what I would put it into like it’s the precut hole in a pan? 🤯

I bought this exact drain for a solid base installation shower pan on concrete but as ALWAYS, Lowe’s sent me a used/returned product or simply missing the attachment to tighten the drain.
I had to waste half an hour finding material that would suffice and then grind it to act as the tool that should have been in the box.
I’ve tried Lowe’s three times now on ordering and they sent me used or incomplete garbage every time.

Si, that's Easy, but how about in first floor with concrete slab?

is the drain cover snap on, or that sponge adhesive ring?

I have one of these installed by a previous owner of the house. It has failed, causing a flooding and collapsed ceiling underneath. I have access to the underside of the shower and can see the end of the ABS pipe with what I suspect is the remains of a gasket sticking about 1/8" out of the ABS elbow. It looks like it can just pop in to the drain fitting, but I presume that's not right, and why this failed.

Can anyone shed light on how this normally connects to the actual ABS drain pipe? The pipe has some movement in it so it it relies on "gravity" to stay attached, do I just jamb it back inside, and properly strap the pipe? Seems like a bad plan...
