JFC Best vid ever on this topic. Ty so much for the concise info. 30 years in construction, never done a shower drain. It's like learning a damn foreign language. Thanks again.

Thank you. Our bathroom remodel has been one issue after another. Hubby just watched this and was happy with the clear instructions. Our problem is that bar for tightening wasn't included with the part. He's a retired millwright so he'll figure it out.

Thank you for making this video! I was confused about the order of gaskets and didn't even realize i needed the putty *palm to forehead*.

Hundred percent silicone under the drain instead of putty and you won’t be sorry later! Silicone is flexible putty degrades. If you’ve ever lift up a faucet and somebody put putty under it which you’re not supposed to do that either, it’s dried out and cracked and that tells you all you need to know.

I know this is an old video but I have some info to add to answer many questions.

First off this drain is designed to be installed in the shower pan first. You connect the rest of the drain piping after the pan is installed. So you will need to get at it from a lower level.

Also when you install this you do not turn the top piece as shown in the video. It is to remain stationary and you tighten the bottom piece. That is why there is a friction washer on the bottom.

Just FYI, my Delta shower basin instructions say not to use plumber's putty as it can degrade the base material. Says use latex/acrylic sealant or a gasket for what it's worth.

For anyone watching this please don’t turn the top portion once putty is in place. There is risk of tearing the putty and allowing a leak path. The metal piece provided is only to hold the top piece securely while the helper below turns the bottom piece prior to gluing onto house plumbing. Great video other than that small mistake that could lead to a headache.

I'm having trouble with the Putty tearing b/c the lower portion is already attached to the drain. When I tighten it down, I cause a leak.

Another viewer suggested this is when you use the fiber instead That the stack should be top, fiber, shower base, rubber, bottom. - That is, the fiber replaces the putty? Seems intuitive, but that's not the way they're stacked when you buy them.

I think i'm just going to have to use silicone, but that seems like a real problem if I ever have to change anything. I'd rather use putty.

How do you get old one out, lets say, PFP600?. Plastic walk in
shower. No access under shower of course. My metal drain cover I epoxied on but tired of doing this 2x.
The Plastic screw holes deteriorated. I tried putting channel locks in
upside down in hole under the metal cover (plastic, I see threads) and getting leverage on the plastic screw hole pieces
sticking out to try to get the part that screws in to--come out. But not luck. Would not budge. Of course I tried
counterclockwise. Not sure if piece was originally glued in. I also
tapped it pretty good around the plastic edges too but no luck. I can
just epoxy the metal drain cover back on for another year using my
Marine Epoxy again. Thoughts? Thanks

i have a delta shower pan it says no plumbers putty ..only latex/acrylic sealant or gasket .... is that the same as silicone?

That's great as far as it goes, but it doesn't address the real difficult issue of installing a shower base: Attaching that drain to the drain line. The installation of the drain assembly to the base, before the base is in place is a no-brainer.  But once the base goes down, you no longer have access to the underside,   THAT is where people need instruction.

Best video I have seen all week. I'm installing one right now. But it's a delta base. Should I just fill it with silicone instead of plumbers putty?
