This is 1000% more useful than the printed instructions that came with the drain.

Strongly suggest that something be placed in the drain before using the tightening tool. Plastic bag or something else that can be easily removed after tightening.
Very easy for the tool to fall in.

Easy peasy. The one in my house was installed incorrectly and popped out causing an enormous leak to the underside of the house. All fixed now. As a new owner of an older home, I am continuously baffled by how much half-ass handy work can accumulate on an older home.

The back of that exact same plumbers putty container says
DO NOT USE ON PLASTIC.

I used Oakey pvc cement on the drain...it was new, so I didn't have to use the purple cleaner. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Sterling warns against Plumbers putty anyway!

My Delta shower base states that plumbers putty will over time degrade the acrylic shower base. Delta recommends using 100% silicone on the flange and threads.

I would recommend silicone over putty cause it doesn’t crack overtime and it’s flexible! Especially if you have a little flex in your pan.

How much pipe should be coming up through the drain

Best video I’ve seen yet. I’ve been searching and searching for how high the drain pipe should be and this answered my question. Thank you so much

I'm sorry but I can't consider it to be no-caulk if I still have to use putty!! Why couldn't you put a soft silicon / rubber seal on the top edge?

The paper instructions say you can use 100% silicone in place of the putty.

Really easy when you have access to the underside of the shower. Trying find how to screw. In from the top when installed on a slab

Pushing down, the rubber gasket is nearly impossible. Can I put some Vaseline or something?

Do you still have to use Plumber's putty for the no caulk unit? I find it spins while tightening the gasket set screw, even after the locking ring has been tightened

Hello Oatey! I am in the process of installing a Delta Classic 500 preformed shower pan. I see this often used with the drain included with this video. I had a contractor suggest i install waterproofing under the pan in case the pan cracks. I do see Oatey has a product of a 40 mil pvc liner used for tile installations. Do you have any products that would add a water protective layer and be compatible with a preformed base?
