Create Realistic Hair in Blender with Geometry Nodes!

Hi everyone, I wish you all a very happy 2023! I've been away for a little while celebrating the holidays, but I've been working on this tutorial during the time off. I read your comments and take your suggestions very seriously.

So, here's a tutorial on how to use the new hair system combined with geometry nodes to create realistic hair systems! To help you save the time of creating your own geometry node hair setups, I added my .blend hair system file on Gumroad that you can download for free. It contains the Geometry Node setups that you can use to customize your hair systems quickly and easily! Hope that helps :)

Thank you so much for the support! Would you like more hair tutorials or more info on geometry nodes? Perhaps a combination? Let me know! 🖤

Great tutorial! Also thanks for including the geometry node setups. It makes understanding these features a lot easier.

You said, "You now know a little more about how it works." Not really. I now know a lot more how it works. Thanks for your informative tutorial. Thank you very much, sir.

Amazing! It works like a charm. I will crate a reference when I publish my work using yoyur geonodes for hair. thank you very much!

Thanks for this!! it would be cool if you could make a ponytail using the hair physics in blender

great stuff, but can you apply hair physic dynamics to this hair after you are done, like the hair in the particle system ?

This is great! Yet I still struggle with making the ends of straight hair look natural. Maybe there is a need for a slider to decrease the uniformity in hairs' lengths and introduce some more randomizaion at varying depths into the lengths. Otherwise, when the lengths are even (or a even slightly too uniform) they start looking like a "clamped toothbrush" of a sort at the tips.

Great video, really helpful. Do you know of a way to create sub clumping? For example, having clumps within clumps using geometry nodes. The only way I have seen is using 1 clump per guide which isnt ideal as it requires a tone of guide curves to get something looking natural. Thanks!

Just wondering if using this system on a character (potentially two characters in same scene) will make my render time go up exponentially? Is there a way to bake it or something to make it quicker once you have the hair modeled the way you like?

And thank you so much for the blend file. You accept donations?

I have a question/ request: I am working on my character and I realized that after creating and combing some hair, I would need more smothing hairs/strands, because I got lack of control points. the question is, once I 've created my strand, how can I increase the control points in order to avoid these long straitght segments ? Is it possible to add a GeoNodes modifier in the stack in which I can increase the number of control points to my strands? thanks in advance.

has anyone been able to get their hair systems to work with shape keys? It looks like it works well with rigs, but I usually rig my characters face's with shape keys and those dont seem to work for the mesh deform modifiers
