Low Carb Thyroid - Powerful Nutrition Tips for Lasting Health // Something that often gets missed is the connection between thyroid problems and blood sugar conditions. People with low thyroid have a higher likelihood of developing diabetes and it makes sense that having hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s can also contribute to issues processing dietary carbohydrates. When our blood sugar becomes elevated, our insulin will become chronically high and can contribute to a number of inflammatory conditions. To help with this, we need to better understand the connection between our thyroid gland, blood sugar, and insulin resistance. Once we do so, then we can use natural strategies, like a low carb diet, to help improve and support our symptoms overall.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism years ago and started changing lifestyle and food intake about a year ago to support it naturally instead of taking medication. Jan of this year I decided to take a 100 day keto challenge to see how it made me feel. I now keep my carbs definitely less than 50grams but most of my ranges are between 20-25 grams a day. I am feeling great but I have noticed my weight loss does go at a much slower pace than the others I am doing it with that do not have any thyroid issues.

Great info as usual. On Jan 1st of this year I started a clean keto diet to see if I could finally beat Metabolic Syndrome without worsening my hashimoto’s symptoms. It was a bumpy start as I discovered the importance of electrolytes while transitioning off a carb-heavy diet. I’m keeping my total carb intake below 50 grams and have reduced caloric intake to a safe weight loss level. My weight loss is very slow but I’m determined. My sick body wasn’t harmed in a day so I know it’ll take time to reverse. I’m confident this is the way to go. Ate you aware of any reasons to not continue low carb for years? At what point could I reintroduce higher carbs for, say, one day a month?

i can fall asleep after a meal little carbs. i was eating: meat, veggies like broc, caul, aspar, grn bns, bok choi, kale, tomatoes, cukes, peppers, summer squash/zucch, things like that. all low carb. not huge servings. plain, no sauces or butter, just salt and pepper. along with avocado and maybe a few raspb or blackb. very simple. i have since discovered that soy will pass to chicken meat and the eggs. tests were done that show that gluten does not pass to beef. still looking into the soy, cuz cattle are fed both to fatten them up fast. farmed fish is fed soy and other noxious stuff.
