They look attractive but I'll wait to see the reviews​ before making a decision. For the market they're aiming at, USB C not an issue.

I generally agree about the port situation. On the other hand, I rarely connect my laptop to anything besides the charger and an external display.

Fabric keyboard cover will eventually darken where you rest your hands; even clean hands produce oily fingerprints/palmprints :) The 3:2 aspect ratio is awesome if you are using Canon or Nikon full frame/crop sensor cameras because 3:2 is their native ratio (so no cropping required).

Windows 10 S is not 'rubbish'.
Better to inform yourself (and so potential end users) a bit better.
It's full blown windows with speed and security (of that end user) in mind.
True, some end users will want to upgrade because they cant wait for their software to become available in the store, but that shouldn't take too long, as it's a simple thing to release (even older) software to the store.
10 S really makes sense for a whole lot of users, so should deserve a little more attention.

I HATE that we consumers justify the absurd price of expensive products by comparing it to equally overpriced expensive products. I'm sorry but 4gb for a 1000 dollar laptop was ridiculous last year AND IS just EMBARASSING in 2017. fricking oneplus 3 comes with 6gb of ram!

it is a student laptop which means a lot of restrictions (USB type C and Windows 10 S which allows you to only download apps from the windows store). but I'm confident that their next Laptop is going to come with the works.

Saying "It's a good purchase because it has a better value than a MacBook" is not a valid argument.
Anything has a better value than a MacBook.

If the biggest complaints are the ports and the price, then Microsoft have done pretty well. I think they do have the branding to back up the premium price, even if there are better value options out there. It is a very pretty laptop, even better looking than the Macbook IMO. I will probably move on from this Acer to one of these in a couple of years when USB C has been well and truly adopted.

Great first look and well produced! ;) I still don't see what all the hoopla is about USB C. I don't see any massive influx of USB C devices flooding the market, and they said it would be here 2 years ago. (Biz pros may need them, but the target market, students, don't.) So I think this laptop will be perfect for everybody. I've pre-ordered cobalt blue. When are you getting your review model? Take care.

I guess it's true - opinion really is divided on this thing! I guess it's because Surface products like this have so much potential, especially as they come so close to being great, that a few odd choices (no USB C, rubbish entry-level spec) make it a bit disappointing

Usb c absence is a sad, but microsoft put their surface connector that could be used for data transfer, charging, driving monitor, or even ethernet. That should be almost on par with usb c in terms of data speed in total. Hopefully microsoft will release a surface connector compatible dongle, as we know the surface dock gen 2 is pricey.

I like the 3:2 aspect ratio and the "open with only one hand" feature like the macbook but thats probably the only thing. Compared to a Dell XPS 13 its really bad. Like you said no USB type C and no thunderbolt.

I like the i7 model. The excellent build quality and attractive design has always been a consistent part of the Surface line.
My only concern is how much screen wobble there is when using the touch display.
I own every Surface product except the Surface Book. The Book's significant screen wobble was a deal breaker for me.
