UPDATE: The Surface Laptop (Intel) has coil whine. Electrical sounds can be heard in a silent room. The Qualcomm model does not. This tones down our recommendation to buy Intel over Qualcomm

I understand the criticism that SD Surface laptops are getting about less app support and no gain support. But understand, ARM is taking baby steps in this field and these inconsistencies are expected. Apple's sole control over Mac enables developers to produce apps for Mac that are only ARM-supported. But when it comes to Windows, x86 has been the king and ARM is only the beginning. Criticising it based on this at this early stage is kinda biased. ARM is the future and once developers get to develop ARM versions of their apps and games (albeit a huge investment), things will take a turn for good.

I have the Qualcomm Elite X Version. My battery life is great all-day battery. Bad Gaming but it is not a Gaming Laptop. My laptop is so fast and has no heating issue.

$1600 for a "light use" laptop is crazy

It should literally be impossible for a basic laptop like Sufaces to cost more than a MBP at any config. This pricing is ridiculous.

I really wasn't planning on replacing my old Macbook Pro with a Macbook Pro, but here we are again.

Great for businesses to buy for their employees because of their good keyboards, great haptic trackpads, build quality, and 3:2 screen. Staff appreciate the different colours too.

Microsoft favors Qualcomm due to past disappointments with Intel, which only recently developed suitable mobile chips like Lunar Lake. If Microsoft hadn't bet on Qualcomm, we might not have seen these advancements. Apple's M-chips also pushed Intel to improve. I got the Surface Pro with the Snapdragon Plus and it's almost perfect. Would've been the cherry on top if it could be slim like the older Surface Pro X.

Great video as always. I absolutely love my SL7, but it's good to see that there's now another option for those who need x64.

I am so glad I did not go with with a Qualcomm laptop just yet. Obviously, the market, sellers and many reviewers were praising mighty high these machines, but in reality, you do not get nearly enough for their price and the trade off is still significant. Hearing that the battery life is also leaves much to be desired yet being the biggest selling point of these laptops is absolutely ridiculous. Almost five years after the Apple silicon, yet the competition is still lagging behind, Intel may be better at power efficiency, AMD is plenty powerful, but neither can do both sadly. Anyway, rent over, my fiance and I are both happy with our Lenovo Yogas. Great video, as always, appreciate the honesty!

I have both xElite Surface Laptop 7 and Intel based machines as well. This is a very first version of xElite Laptop and it delivered on longer battery and running it cooler. Fantastic screen quality, performance for daily usage, longer battery life, built quality, Audio quality, all is excellent. Very first Qualcomm laptop and delivered on Battery life. For most users, who are not in gaming or video editing, Surface laptop 7 delivers on its promise. x86 machines which are in industry for decades, has taken way too long on battery life and runs very hot even for normal usage and no matter if the laptop is 1200+ USD or 600+ USD. ARM based windows machine are here to stay and it will have revisions for gaming with better battery life. Its coming!

Appreciate all of the work that goes into doing these reviews.

Would love to see a comparison of this Surface Laptop 7 (Intel) with the Thinkpad Carbon x1 (Lunar lake and/or previous gens. Can't really justify buying the Lunar lake).

Also, another review idea I'd be reslly interested in seeing is how such lsptops perform when connected to a monitor, ss I've read about Carbon X1 laptops fans going like crazy when connected via usb).

Always great info, and always highlighting the downsides along with the positives. With all the smoke and mirrors out there, I feel I can get a truly unbiased, and if anything, slightly critical viewpoint on Just Josh. Thanks, y'all.

Tried these in store and they feel like the only Windows Laptop on par with MacBooks in terms of build quality to me. The haptic trackpad is superb.

Bought a Slim 7i Gen 10 lunar lake and was not convinced at all (aside from the keyboard) and returned it.

Ended up going with a base model MBP M4 for 1600€ though since the same storage and memory config for the Surface Laptop would have been 2000€ -2200€ depending on the chip. Their pricing is abysmal.

Yea that’s the problem with windows…it’s gonna be a couple years until we get broad application support for ARM
