Why should you consider getting married, if as Jesus states in Matthew 22:30; "at the resurrection, they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven?"

When Blessed Karl of Austria was married, he said to his wife Zita, "Now let’s help each other get into heaven."

" If a man and woman marry in order to be companions on the journey from earth to heaven, then their union will bring great joy to themselves and others." - St.John Chrysostom

Thanks for this. My husband passed away in December. I mourn that life as I knew it is over, and our married life will never be again. This gives me hope. But whatever Christ has in store will be better than I can even comprehend. Jesus, I trust in You.

I have ruminated on this very topic multiple times. I've just wanted to stay eternally with the woman that God clearly gave to help me become a saint.

The thought of not being with my husband for all eternity makes me so sad. I love him so much and he shows his love to me every single day. I have the best husband in the world for me!

Hello, Father Mike! I would add that within marriage, you can experience God's love, which is unconditional. Even though I got divorced after 15 years, I wouldn't skip it for all the world. Hopefully, he and I both became better people, closer to Christ. Even if I had cancer and wasn't blessed with kids.

My father always said, having children is the way most people work out their salvation (he was serious about that)-so he had 10 of us to make sure he got there. And all us kids would groan at the "dad joke".

We've been married for 54 years - with the usual up's and down's. I love my wife! I studied to become a priest for 5 years and when I discussed this with those in my class who had been ordained I was quoted the same Gospel reference. The Lord said that their is no 'marrying or giving in marriage in heaven', right? But He makes no mention of those who are married at death and want to remain so for eternity. I think sometimes what's NOT said is equally important.

Whether married or part of a religious order, the journey to get to heaven is long and treacherous, and no one should attempt it alone, without guidance, support, friendship, and good company. Even in the beginning, the Father was with the Word and Holy Spirit.

"Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it's just too bad, because there is no one to help him. If it is cold, two can sleep together and stay warm, but how can you keep warm by yourself? Two people can resist an attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break." (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

Marriage is a gift to us on Earth. I can't wait to get married and have children!

It follows that young people should pray for discernment for marriage as it is very important in our walk with God and being in a bad marriage can derail one’s faith

If human relationships did not persist in some profound way in heaven, then it would make no sense for Mary to be the Queen of Heaven, since this grace is bestowed on her for being the human mother of the Incarnate Word. Similarly, we talk of the role that the Holy Family continues to play in the world (think of all the Marian apparitions where St. Joseph also appears). Their earthly relationship was not cast side but glorified and transformed. Into what, we cannot say exactly. But it was not erased.

Thank you, dear Fr. Mike!! My beloved husband died three years ago after a lifetime of MD suffering. He often spoke of his wishes for me to love again after he was gone. Your beautiful explanation has added to my peace in accepting his wish for me if God wills it. Thank you!!! God bless you abundantly, Fr. Mike!

You don’t need marriage in heaven because you will be with Jesus. I struggle with being single at 33. With each year of getting older it becomes more difficult to date because most men are married.

Thank you, Father. I’ve been discerning religious life but also open to marriage, so this video clears up a lot of confusion and ignorances. Prayers to you

So good Fr. Mike! I have never got this question before but sooner or later one of our 7 kids would pose this one to us. The analogy to faith and hope being fulfilled and not necessary in heaven is truly best analogy to use here. God bless your ministry. Please pray for the Staples family. My husband Tim Staples is still on the road to recovery. Your prayers would be much appreciated.

"This text [Matthew 22: 30] is often understood to imply that marriage is only an earthly institution and that its reality is dissolved by death. Such an understanding prevailed in the Western Church...[In the Eastern Church] The union between husband and wife...is an eternal union between two unique and eternal personalities which cannot be broken..." ~John Meyendorff
