The current flying B-52s, the "H" model, rolled off the assembly line in 1961-1962 (they have 60 and 61 model numbers...) The Astrotracker was removed from the B-52 probably on the date of that tag...before 1989 definitely. From talking to folks older than me, it was more trouble than good ...and besides the navigators, up until around 1997 practiced celestial navigation using an aircraft sextant that would be inserted into an opening in the top of the crew compartment. (quite accurate) GPS on the aircraft came along in the mid 90's, so they no longer needed celestial navigation training.

Hi Dave, I am from Cuba but I am living in US now. This Oscilloscope took me back to my years of high school, this guy used to be in our labs it was done by the GDR. That was my first experience with oscilloscopes. Thanks for bring me back in time! (1980s)

Absolutely brilliant Vlog. I love all the videos, learn so so much and am so inspired by your knowledge, enthusiasm and energy for Electronics. What a gem of a person!

"Condition Code B" means the unit was fully functional but 'of little use or service life expectancy' in 1985.

At 6:40 - Kollsman Instrument is the BIG name in aviation altimeters, at least in the US. Altimeters have an adjustment knob to set the local runway altitude (before takeoff) and you can then read the local barometric pressure in a small "Kollsman" window. OR, if you are in the air and are told the local pressure, you can set it and know your correct altitude. Barometric pressure can change radically on a cross country flight. Knowing your true altitude is, of course, REALLY important so you don't run into mountains and such, and know the altitude of the runway you are trying to land on. For practical purposes GPS has replaced the mechanical altimeter but the FAA (US) still requires them as "basic equipment".

Dave, Just remember that Sagan might not find these videos quite so cute when he gets older and attends high school. Full marks for being a caring dad, but you might want to get some advice from the people who manage security for celebrities given the number of subscribers you have. It's one thing putting yourself in front of the camera, the rest of the family needs to be a carefully considered decision. Great channel, entertaining videos.

This was a great episode. Sagan makes mailbag so much better. Seems like a very smart kid, too!

The Telstra remote seems to use the good old NRF24 chip. A classic.
The batteries are parallel not series. btw. ;)

In the Army we used those tags to just mark items for recycle, repair, or disposal. It's just the formal papers for items being removed for turn in to the apropriate place or repair shop so the item can be tracked from the commanders hand receipt for equipment.

I can see "The Sagan Show" coming soon down the road. Always fun to watch him grow.

I like watching your channel. It's becoming clear why. I imagine the confluence of your positive energy and enthusiasm, your beautiful wife seems super nice, and your son is fantastic. It appears you have a dream life. You seem to live in a cocoon of positivity that is a probably just a distant dream for North Americans, such as myself. I love it. The world needs more people like you who share a positive affect, instead of spreading stress. Good on you, Dave. You're showing us how to do it right. Thanks for the great channel.

I really can't watch the episodes with Sagan. He's a good kid, no doubt, but him screaming at me/the camera is not what I go for when watching EE related videos. Good on you for being a hands on dad, though.
