When I worked at the local computer store I took odd pride in making creative stacks of parts. It always sucked when people actually bought the items and my work of art started to slowly dissapear!

EEVBlog multimeters, Crash tested - for your safety!

Lol! I recently did this (or rather, un-did this) with vhs tapes, up to the ceiling for storage. One thing to watch out for is over time things can compress... I thought the stack was squashed very tightly against the ceiling for stability but over time it had compressed so much that when I dismantled it, it turned out that it had been free - standing for some time! At least it compressed evenly... OOPS!

In the Northern Hemisphere they lean the opposite direction

You can tell Dave is certainly happy about his multimeters.

Admit it Dave. You were bored that morning
Stacking boxes and the science behind it.
Checking fault tolerance on like 20 multi-meters.

I think Adam Savage said it best. The only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.

Jenga blocks just stacked on top of each other would be similarly unstable but when interlinked as they're supposed to gain extra stability. House bricks are interlinked same reason.

Stacking that many multimeters would cause instability in the fabric of space-time, hence why they are so wobbly

Stack them 4 per row but rotate them 90 degrees to form a big square. Use the flap on the top to go under the next box to lock the rows together.

All broken when they reach the customers, now we know why :)

Very nice sideexperiment....That´s a true nerd EE thing...I remember me doing similar things, when some PCB batches arrived, or that day when some 250 hexagonal packaging boxes (retrail pagaging, but we ordered bulk) of DSPs arrived at the company i´ve worked for.

I did see it just begin to collapse in the full video.

Needs feedback so it can self balance!

Sir Isaac Newton said in 1683 that you couldn't stack multimeter’s higher than Dave’s waist. What a genius!

What do you do with a box full of multimeters, stack em of course.

When my 9 year old daughter was 2, i used to, in the evening, stack 2 jenga boxes in the lounge up to our 10' ceiling, so she could smash down the tower in the morning by chucking a teddy at the bottom.
