Expressing emotions doesn’t mean you should *act* on it. You might feel angry but that doesn’t mean you should punch someone. The idea is to acknowledge your own emotions, perhaps by saying, ‘I’m angry about this’, or ‘I feel disappointed’, rather than denying you feel the emotion. Telling yourself “I’m fine” when it’s not true is not healthy. Also, acknowledging your emotions at the time you feel them helps you get over them faster, so your feelings don’t linger and fester.

If you bottle up your emotions they will ferment and turn into whine.

As a person of British heritage, I wholly disagree with the subject of this episode. It has been well established that only legitimate way to process emotion is through gin (or a strong bitter), passive-aggressive behavior, deadpan comedy, the colonization of a quarter of the planet, or by humiliating the French.

I can read people okay, but I have no idea what to do with it.

“You can’t bottle your emotions forever”

Me: *bottling up more emotions*. “WATCH ME”

Plus we have to dump this idea of showing emotions being a weakness. Our culture is really screwy when it comes to this.

I would like a video on looking at Highly Sensitive People or the HSP personality. Being vulnerable or sensitive has a negative stigma surrounding it. Even this video says its okay to open up, but there's no denying there has been a longstanding suppression in various cultures.

This episodes is basically my mental state. I have learned to suppress a lot of anxiety, but it's all still there. I sometimes psych myself out so much that I miss obvious things, and while I do learn from my mistakes... eventually, I feel like I should _do better._ Well, I think everyone get this feeling at some point. I hope, at least.

I find it hard to read people. They won't let me write on them.

First bit about it being linked to higher mortality rates could just be correlation not causation

Expressing your emotions is helpful from a social perspective and may drop stress levels, BUT it also digs in the Neural Pathways for those feelings making them easier to slip into in other situations. So while expressing your emotions could help in a short-term way, I'm under the impression over the long run it makes things worse if done regularly
