★ FULL TUTORIAL ★

You don't always need to use section cuts to create elevations in SketchUp. By using the position camera tool, you can create a clipping plane, that slices through the model without having to deal with organizing section planes.

I appreciate your straight forward teaching ... you're not trying to be a showman, you are a great teacher. Thank you kindly!

Great to learn the camera position method for elevations and plans! Thank you and I have benefitted greatly from the SU/LO books as well.👍

You are right! Your trick is so much simpler and cleaner than section cuts.

When I figured out that trick, it really made a big difference with me too on how I set up my scenes. Like I said in the video, I rarely use section cuts any more. Thanks for the feedback!

I had a go at Layout months ago, I kept fiddling with the section tool, it drove me nuts and I gave up. The position camera tool trick has given me new hope. Thank you!

This was harder to digest a few years ago, a lot easier now. One of the best and it endures.

Thanks for this, I am always happy to learn something new to make my work easier (work smarter, not harder, right!). That little trick with the position the camera tool along the axes, instead of the section plane tool did it for me this time. Great work!

In Layout, when you import a Sketchup Model set to orthogonal perspective, you can define the scale of the model on the "Sketchup Model" tab.

When you insert dimensions in Layout it will automatically set the scale of the dimensions to match the scale of the model you're snapping to. You can override this by clicking on the dimension, drop the "Dimension Style" tab, and uncheck "Auto Scale".

There is a way to enter "Model Space" in Layout, but I only use it to tweak perspective views.

thank you so much for this. as simple as it is, the official sketchup tutorials seem to skip over the basic but imperative scene-adding in order to get elevations at the angles i want them. thanks!
