The more you look at it, the more badass it becomes. He's literally staring at it while molten slag is being knocked off

I love that canonically dwarfs are in fact built different to everyone else because they were a little to quirky for the day one release

"I was born without talons, without fangs, without scales, so I shaped them in fire and hammered them of steel." - Dwarven Forge Priest

"Ya need to feel the metal with your bare hands to know if it's ready or not! Feel the whispers of the metal through your skin! If ya think it's too hot then ya don't belong in the forge!"-said a Dwarf, probably.

The holding metal actually has an explanation. Dwarves are actually fire resistant, some are born like that and some get the ability after years of exposure, that’s one of the reasons of why they are so great inside forges.

The Dwarves were created by Aulë the smith of the Valar, essentially the archangels or minor gods of the world, and he made them to be incredibly resilient to help them stand against Morgoth’s corruptions. It’s worth noting that while the Seven Rings given to the Dwarves were functionally identical to the Nine given to Men, the Seven Rings did not have the intended effect of bringing the Bearers directly under Sauron’s control, but instead fueled the Dwarves’ greed causing them to throw away alliances, amass great hoards of wealth that inevitably attracted the attention of dragons, and dig so deep into the earth that they would wake ancient creatures that were best left buried. Given their resistance to the Rings, holding a red hot piece of metal between two multi-ton hammers is child’s play.

Fun fact: while those hammers are an exaggeration, they're less exaggerated than you might think. There are some truly outstandingly huge and heavy water-powered hammers that were in use in Victorian England forges that are still functional today but cannot be powered for more than a quick minutes-long demonstration once upon a blue moon because they're so powerful the vibrations might bring down the ancient forge otherwise. 😅

According to the Silmarillion dwarves are literally sentient rock that were put in storage until man came along.

I think about this every day, and this is why I love the Hobbit films. The love that went into visually building that universe, on top of incorporating the musical element... Chef's kiss

DIGGY DIGGY HOLE! Wait, wrong dwarven song

This scene is the reason I always flavor dwarves in my DnD campaigns to have fire resistance like makes since they live deep underground where it’s actually pretty hot to begin with but then they are constantly around lava and are known for their smithing and like if you can touch molten metal then your gonna be one hell of a smith like I’ve done blacksmithing before and the main thing that makes it hard is that you can’t be precise because you can’t touch it directly so being able to touch it would be a huge advantage although to balance it I make dragon fire ignore their resistance

This dwarf is the reason that forge clerics become immune to fire in D&D.

The Dwarves wiped out like a third of Sauron's army off-screen in LotR. 😂

I don't even think that was supposed to be iron, I thought it was mithril or something (hence why you need giant hammers to shape it)

People bash the Hobbit movies, but the dwarf portrayal is unparalleled, even compared to the book. I love that all of the members of the Company are given unique personalities and traits. Some spittle sprayers try to argue "erm acktusallyy the lack of individuality among the dwarves was totally deliberate, how dare you question Saint Tolkien's genius" or whatever, but reading about 13 basically interchangeable dwarves was a total slog to me. Basically, the Hobbit movies are underrated af.
