i love that your son's reaction to a mistake is compassion for himself. i love that you have instilled this within him. What my parents instilled within me was that small things like spilling something means it's the end of the world, i've made the biggest mistake, i'm an idiot, i'm clumsy, etc. my reaction to small mistakes to this day is to beat myself up, catastrophic thinking, anger, panic, shame, etc... i'm working on it! it makes me so happy when i see parenting like yours. awesome.
