I have run both Windows 10 & Windows 7 on my iMac Pro, using Parallels, at the same time without the iMac Pro breaking a sweat. It's great.

That was super useful, thanks Jeff. When Apple decided to go ARM-based I was torn whether I needed to replace my 2015 MBP with a new Windows laptop. I use my MBP 90% in Windows for engineering (spreadsheets, CAD) and 10% in OSX for music/video production. Horror stories abound with new windows laptops, my wife just got a new Dell and it's been over a week without Outlook and now Chrome won't even open. Insanity. My MBP just always worked, including everything through Bootcamp... all my engineering software, not one hitch (well, the bluetooth sucks on Bootcamp but a wifi dongle mouse fixed that). It's a hot little 13" workhorse. Thankfully it looks like I can save up for a new ARM-based 16 inch MBP and run Windows through Parallels. No more need to dual boot!

For those of you who want to virtualize Windows but already have a functioning BootCamp, consider checking out vmWare Fusion. It does just that: Virtualize your existing BootCamp!

New intro/outro!!! I like it, but the old one will always have my heart. ❤️

This video would have been MUCH more helpful if comparisons in features, functionality and performance to earlier Parallels versions or even comparisons to the current Fusion release would have been made.
This video is only aimed at complete VM beginners on the Mac and is summed up basically as:

"Hey guys, there is this awesome software called Parallels, version 13 which you can install on your Mac to run Windows without bootcamp.
Look, you can select how much virtual RAM you want Windows to be using and you really should upgrade your RAM in your Mac."

Maybe do a follow up video that is more useful for users of VM software on a Mac?

How do I change the ram storage because when I exit it, then it wants me to go back in and shut it down, but if I shut it down I can’t use the settings window

Finally, computer games on my Mac! Thanks for the video, 9to5Mac. You earned a subscribe for this video.
Did you just say 40k of RAM???? Wow.

That's more worth it for using parallel dekstop than installing Windows 10 via bootcamp because through the bootcamp it takes longer than using the parallel dekstop. And it also can using Windows and Mac at the same time. I Appreciate it

I actually prefer to boot camp first and then make parellel to works with it. So If I want max performance in windows, I boot into boot camp, if doing something light, I will just use Parellel to run the quickly.

It's really good for most WORK related tasks. Gaming is fine as long as you stick to 2D titles and/or older and lightweight 3D titles... The performance seems to be near native until you get into more demanding games. I tested games like Portal, Dota2, VRChat and emulators (PCSX2) some games like VRCHAT and Dota 2 for instance have "playable" performance but the graphics are kinda buggy (missing/glitched textures).

hi you showed us how to download windows 10 on an external hard drive using VMware can you please make the same video using Parallels 13 on a external hard drive or it will not work with it ? Thanks

You don’t need to activate windows, it just removes customization options, I’ve had unactivated windows running for over a year in parallels, I have 10 windows vms and I’m not paying for all of them

I dunno Why but your voice is very relaxing and nice

Lol that's why I have a Hackintosh with dual boot to Windows 10 and macOS 10.13.3 both running on separate 256GB SSDs, and because they're running on different SSDs I can access files from Windows on macOS, pretty neat.

Helpful video
One of the issues for me was how to stop the virtual machine so that you could configure it. After a bit of time here is how i still have windows 8 so might be slightly different for others.
Click the parallel's ll icon at the top of the screen go to actions under actions drop down menu click stop. pop up says ...are sure want to shut down, click yes. Go back to the parallel II icon top of screen and this time click control centre. A window logo picture pops up, click the cog wheel. Now you should be able to see the control centre configuration panel without restriction. Lastly to make changes first click the pad lock icon at the bottom image to unlock, enter your password and you now can make changes.

You didn’t highlight the most compelling feature of Parallels DT and that being, Coherence mode. The ability to hide the Windoze desktop and run Windoze apps from the dock as if they were Mac apps. Having the ability to drag and drop from a Mac finder window to a Windoze app etc.

I have an older version of Parallels and the latest version of VirtualBox (which is free). I find VirtualBox a great alternative.

Does the $89 fee for the key have to be renewed every year?
