As a CPA, I use Parallels to run my accounting software on my M1 MBA. Each version works better and I am looking forward to trying version 19.

I was worried after the M1 debut that I’d have to get a PC to work on excel and powerbi. Ive been using the same VM as you since and super impressed with how fast it’s still been working on large datasets. 📊

I hate that they switched to a subscription model years ago! A deal breaker for me!

Windows and Visual Studio for ARM were a well timed gift for us users with a macbook M1/M2. I can only hope that others will follow swiftly (for soft and hardware). :)

parallels is great but i got sick of the annual upgrade fee. i bought a refurbished LG laptop on ebay for $600 bucks to run windows on it and it's a lot less headache. plenty of great shape used windows laptops out there!

The "MacHUB" killed me! 🤣 I use Parallels 19 on a Mac Studio and it runs really well and seamlessly. I prefer to run it in non-coherence mode because I like to keep OS interaction completely separate, it is just a preference. One huge caveat with Parallels 19 that perhaps you mention in another of your videos is that for version 19, it now ONLY installs Windows "Pro", unlike earlier versions where you can install the cheaper "Home" version. I bought an "OEM" version of Windows 11 Pro for $80 instead of paying the full $200 license since I do not intend to use it in any other machine. Anyhow, great information!

I loved my 2012 MacBook Pro with Bootcamp. I still use it! What is holding me back from upgrading is the lack of nested virtualization (and bootcamp to some extent). Asahi Linux announced nested virtualization on M2's so there is hope that Apple will release it in their virtualization kit. As for Bootcamp type of functionality, I'm assuming that's in MIcrosoft's court.

I have bought Parallels 18 standard 3 months ago, now they realized version 19. Would be nice to make some tests between version 18 and 19 if it's worth upgrading... Because upgrade also costs pretty penny, so would be nice to know if it's worth it

A good alternative is running Windows on a separate machine using a hypervisor. I chose that route because I had some 24/7 workloads I wanted to run. A great internet connection is a prerequisite but that’s not too hard to come by in an urban setting.

5:35 QEMU is completely free and allows you to run x86 Windows on ARM devices like the macbook. It might be harder to setup.

I have a M1 and had an old Intel Mac and I just used Windows for that exact reason. I used to use parallels but native Windows is just better imo. At least a better experience.

We LOVED this video, Alex! Great work and we are so glad you are enjoying Parallels Desktop!

People ask why bother with this??? I still have two 2015-era macbook pros that are used daily, and have never skipped a beat. Whereas my windows laptops/desktops at the office have historically been trashed after three or four years' use. My 13" mbp is my around the house laptop -- the battery has been screaming at me for years to service it, I've got to believe it's at 1500+ cycles, but I can still get an hour or two out of it on youtube or whatever. And the other is a fully loaded, bent in half 15" mbp beauty with a smashed screen that I bought used in 2016 for $400 lol. I've used it exclusively as a desktop for the past 8 years running Windows 10 on two external monitors, it still runs like a champ. I actually hate macOS for the most part, especially its monitor/window control, but Apple hardware and build quality can't be beat.

I have a question, Alex: have you noticed any hit on the battery performance when you run parallels? As Windows 11 (or 10 for what matters) runs on a x86-64 architecture and parallels does that translation as far as I know. I believe that would be possible. However, it would be good to know from someone that had this experience.

I think it’s because of the speed of ssd on MacBook. Try to check on windows laptop and MacBook

Imagine, running Native Windows on Apple Silicon, now that's mind blowing.

so i need to get a Mac pro for overprice + get parallels subscription (sick!) + get windows license instead of just getting proper windows laptop? this logic....

VMWare now works pretty good and supports opengl and directx. Could you consider making a video about it please

Saw a youtuber out in the wild recently setting up camera positions and filming themselves perform the same task over and over again until they think they got the right shot. Makes me question the naturality/spontaneity of any b-roll footage people include anymore. I'm just too introverted to set up a camera in public to record myself doing something normal while others are watching wondering as to my intentions.

i made the leap from PCs about a year back. I purchased a used M1 Mac Mini and was won over. I then purchased a 2012 Mac to use as a file server and then a mint condition i7 Macbook Pro 2015. My garage PC is a hackintosh and then despite all protestations, I purchased an iphone XS. Couldn't be happier.
