This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. They of these compact SUVs share the same 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 6 speed automatic transmission paired with an electric motor. Total output is 226 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and they are AWD only. The Tucson Hybrid is wider, longer and taller than the previous model. It is half an inch taller and wider than the outgoing model. Its overall length is 5.9 inches longer and the wheel base is 3.5 inches longer. The Tucson in Amazon Grey has a distinct and sharp looking exterior with angular body panels and a front radiator grille with dark chrome accents giving this SUV an aggressive look. It comes standard with LED headlights and taillights, a panoramic sunroof, smart power liftgate, a spare tire kit and 19” wheels. The Ultimate trim we are testing comes with LED premium projector type headlights and 19” alloy wheels. The Santa Fe in Magnetic Grey has a modern and elegant exterior with a larger front grille and chrome accents throughout, it has a bit of a Palisade vibe to it. There are 2 trims in Canada and 3 in the US. The Santa Fe Hybrid comes standard with LED headlights, a temporary spare tire and 18” wheels; 17” are standard in the US. If you want the panoramic sunroof and LED taillights, you have to add the trend package to the base model trim in Canada for $2,100. For $2,400 more we feel the top Luxury trim offers better value, you get everything in the trend package plus 19” alloy wheels and a smart power lift-gate. In the US, the base model comes with folding side mirrors and the smart power liftgate. In Canada, the side folding mirrors are not available on the Hybrid only on the gas model. The Tucson Hybrid offers a clean and modern interior with piano black trim and no buttons. It comes standard with a 8” touchscreen, a 10.25” digital information display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, heated leather wrapped steering wheel, heated and ventilated front leather seating surfaces. The top Ultimate trim you get the 10.25” touchscreen, drivers seat memory, a Bose stereo system and wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto. At this time, wireless is not available on the larger screen. The Santa Fe Hybrid interior is very different from the Tucson, it is loaded with buttons and has a very organized and well-designed centre console. It comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, a 4.2-inch information display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a leather wrapped heated steering wheel and cloth seats. Unfortunately, the larger touchscreen is not available on this Hybrid in Canada even though it’s available on the gas model and the Tucson Hybrid. The top trim comes standard with ventilated front seats, drivers memory seats, leather console molding, heated rear seats, a wireless charger, a 12.3” digital information display and a smart power liftgate. There are some other odd differences between the Santa Fe gas model and the Hybrid. The gas model gets front park assist, one-touch power windows for the passenger, power-folding side mirrors, a head-up display and a 12 speaker Harman Kardon sound system but these features are not offered on the hybrid. In the US, power-folding side mirrors are standard on the top trim and the middle and top trims get the Harman Kardon sound system and the 10.25” touchscreen. The Santa Fe offers 2.7 inches more front legroom and less than half an inch more second row legroom than the Tucson. The Tucson offers half an inch more front headroom, 1.7 inches more rear headroom and 63 litres more cargo space. When the 2nd row seats are down, it’s 78 litres more than the Santa Fe Hybrid.

My wife and I just got the Tucson Hybrid ultimate and this past weekend we drove 225 kilometers on a scenic road at 60 to 90 kilometers per hour speeds and finished that trip with an average of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers.
By the way Jack thanks for bringing the better half of your couple the gorgeous and very smart Andrea !

Finally another Motormouth video. It's been a whole 24 hours. I think I'm addicted! I'm 100% with Zack, I like me some buttons. I'll have to see if there is any difference between the Santa Fe Calligraphy and Hybrid in the States when a dealership has both. Watch, next year the Tuscon will have a volume button, just to spite us lol. You guys are the best car channel on Youtube.

The Santa Fe is available as a 7 seater here in Australia.
Love your channel.

We love our new Santa Fe Hybrid Blue package. A solid build and so comfortable. We have had it for 4 weeks now.

Here in the states, I've been leaning towards the Santa Fe, but with increasing prices and the games that dealerships play to drain your bank account, I'm leaning more towards the Tuscon. Only problem is that the center console uses the piano black surface touch buttons, which are a fingerprint magnet. Also, I prefer tactile buttons that I can feel while I'm trying to keep my attention on the road.

Great comparison guys. Really liked it.
Also, it seems the Tuscon is the practical choice to go.

This is a much anticipated review. I'm wondering how the hybrid performs on a bigger and heavier Santa Fe vs. Tucson.

Awesome review and a few good laughs about confusion between Canada and USA packages and between gas and hybrid. Also I had a good laughs about Zack moving his hands so much that remind me of my deaf do that. Perhaps Zack should learn sign language. 😆

Hey guys thanks for this great review! We are in the Las Vegas area and were able to find a 2022 Santa Fe Calligraphy AWD. We just had to agree with Andrea, it is a good value for a near luxury class vehicle. We live in a large retirement community full of Buicks, Mercs, and Cads, and like many others wanted a good comfortable road car with all of the technology. Our Santa Fe Calligraphy (all black with tan interior) fits right in and cost thousands less 👍

Don’t feel bad Andrea and Zach! In the US, models like the RDX A-Spec do not come with rain sensing wipers or power folding mirrors like you guys get! Another example is the Honda CRV. In Canada you guys can get the panoramic sunroof, we just get the regular sunroof, and I think you guys get heated rear seats on the CRV which we don’t get here in the US!🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the comparison Andrea and Zach! I also find the difference in trim features very confusing. I was going to get the hybrid Santa Fe but I'm not getting the same features of the Calligraphy trim... plus I am not a fan of the chrome trim; I prefer the black diamond trim on the Calligraphy. I can wait until next year to purchase so hopefully the 2023 Santa Fe hybrid will have the features I want. If not, I'm getting the hybrid Tucson (Hyundai, just add a few buttons/dial).

Hello from Colorado - I really enjoy your back and forth style of car reviews. The new Tucson is a really sharp looking vehicle. I'm considering the plug-in Hybrid version as my next purchase.

Oh just had to add. Have you seen the Tuscon N line photos ? It's gorgeous! Imagine the comparison videos next year with all the plug-ins, hybrid, gas and N line variations on the Tuscon and the Santa FE and then the new Kias.. *head explosion*.

Agree - love the Tucson outside and Sante Fe inside. We drove both this weekend and went with the Tucson Hybrid in the end. Might have it by Xmas

Nice comparison review. Where were all these hybrids in 2019 when I chose the Rav4?!? My wife told me to wait but I was too excited about a hybrid in this class. Thanks!
