Hyundai Tucson hybrid 2025 review

There are multiple different petrol-electric HEV / hybrid versions of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson update, and in this review I'm telling you the stuff you need to know about the revised SUV range.

Yep, it finally gets a HEV option like the RAV4, and there are plenty of choices in the line-up - 17 derivatives, in fact. And pricing has gone up quite a bit, too. So does it justify the extra asking price?

In many ways, yes. There is still a heap of space inside, still lots of great tech and some new features too. And even the annoying safety stuff has had something of a fix...

Should you consider it? Or go for one my Best Alternatives?:

Very clear video. Audio is excellent also. Also like the captions you put up in the corner to highlight major points.

Have ordered a new hybrid Tucson Premium. Your review has endorsed my decision to buy one. Looking forward to delivery. Very happy with it.

The space saver was enough to sway me into potentially getting this car. Well done Hyundai!

For anyone considering the Hybrid awd. I have a 2022 and this IS a terrific driving and designed SUV and is loaded with great tech. You WONT be disappointed

Bought the top spec Highlander diesel awd brand new a few months ago. I’d waited til I’d heard the specs of the hybrid facelift model before making the decision. Although the hybrid makes an extra 35kw, it’s down 66nm on torque which I think is more usable in a medium suv.
Also the hybrid gets the 6spd auto whereas the diesel got the better 8spd torque converter auto?
Yeah the hybrids fuel economy is a bit better but where I am in Sydney diesel can be 20-30¢ cheaper per litre.
I think if you can get a diesel Tucson runout deal that’d be the best buy, I got a demonstrator with 40km on it for $53k drive away with a runout deal and free on road costs.
Only thing I’d prefer from the facelift model is the new infotainment screen but not worth the extra ~$12k.

Great video, I’ve been waiting for this. Test driving hybrid awd this weekend. Would have bought a Sealion, but the BYD dealership was a shitshow, and I had real doubts about aftercare. BYD need to sort that out to really make it here.

Great review. Your review of the new MINI Countryman was one factor in my decision to buy one. 4 months in and with it’s glitchy software, I’m having second thoughts and even test drove the new Tucson Hybrid last week…. I liked it. Of course, that doesn’t mean it will be immune from software and mechanical issues but I believe this is the 2nd gen of this hybrid? Amazing that the Australian version gets a longer wheelbase!

Prefer the Tuscon over the Sportage, felt the Sportage was dark in the cabin, with no other options here in the UK. But there you its all subjective.

So, a panel of ANCAP “experts” deem we need the bing bongs, which we no doubt pay for. Then, based upon everyone turning them off a manufacturer has come up with a simple way of turning off the very systems required to pass the new safety standards so manufacturers can still get 5 stars even if they technically don’t pass with the annoying “safety” systems disabled. Ken Bruce has gone completely mad! Nice review as always. 👍😎🇦🇺

Test drove one today and was quite impressed. More refined and way better tech than the RAV4. I was also interested in the Honda CRV which isn’t mentioned in this review. Shame the Honda doesn’t have a hybrid option in lower trim models and it also has no spare tyre.

Believe it or not, US versions don’t get a spare wheel of any kind, just an empty space with a screw down hole for a spare but that’s it! I don’t think they even have grocery bag hooks. ( test drove the hybrid last week and didn’t see any)😊

What is your pick of these 17 variants? You usually recommend the best value for money variant in your videos. Not sure if I missed it.

I really hope Hyundai can introduce the 1.5T Mild Hybrid version on both FWD and AWD configurations to replace the 2.0NA and the old 1.6T engine. The hybrid and upcoming PHEV versions may still be too expensive for some buyers, and budget-focus buyers deserve a fuel-efficient option from every brand, which results in introducing a mild hybrid engine as the best choice.

Great review, Matt. It's strange how Hyundai have been beaten by their own offspring, Kia. If buying now, I'd pick the Kia Sportage SX plus turbo diesel with 8 speed conventional auto transmission. $52, 000 drive away. 😊

Question: The Hybrid battery has an 8 year warranty... what will be the cost of replacing the battery in future?

Looks like possibility they have dumped that annoying unnecessary (ANCAP Australia) driver monitoring system? Just left with the stupid speed system also not required by ANCAP Australia (so far)

You say that you can feel it shifting gears in EV mode. I have the hybrid and I can guarantee that you can’t. When in EV mode, the ICE isn’t engaged so it’s not shifting through gears. I think you’re confusing with sport mode where both the ICE and motor are being used to maximise performance.
