Bought the top spec Highlander diesel awd brand new a few months ago. I’d waited til I’d heard the specs of the hybrid facelift model before making the decision. Although the hybrid makes an extra 35kw, it’s down 66nm on torque which I think is more usable in a medium suv.
Also the hybrid gets a 6spd auto whereas the diesel had the better 8spd torque converter auto?
Yeah the hybrids fuel economy is a bit better but where I am in Sydney diesel can be 20-30¢ cheaper per litre.
I think if you can get a diesel Tucson runout deal that’d be the best buy, I got a demonstrator with 40km on it for $53k drive away with a runout deal and free on road costs.
Only thing I’d prefer from the facelift model is the new infotainment screen but not worth the extra ~$12k.

I’m not able to plug a car in at home I’m off grid. I need all wheel drive, better fuel efficiency, good safety, decent cargo space, and this is fitting the bill. I’m jumping in line for one, it looks sporty matches my needs and gives plenty of perks in the tech department.

Have to be keen to buy one at the same price as a Rav4 ...🤪

Nice vehicle but a base model Model Y is the same price, and you'd be paying ~1/3 the price of petrol to charge it at home (which most people would do). Y has a bigger boot too. Maybe not a better vehicle overall, I dunno, but if something is thinking hybrid or PHEV or full EV, there's now no price difference at this price point for a medium SUV....

If it is not a plugin hybrid it’s a waste of money.
