OK - here is an Operating System feature I find myself being unable to live without! It is the Multiple Desktop feature. Enjoy this video where I walk you through how I like to use this feature in Windows 11 (and 10).

This is nice and all, but what’s the point of multiple desktops if I cannot have different files and folders on specific desktops, this is frustrating as a developer where I’m constantly working with multiple 3DS Max files, blender, and so on. My desktop often gets cluttered after a work week, so it would be great if each desktop was a clean slate of icons, so that way I can organize each desktop to a specific project. What’s the point of a different desktop background if you cannot change the files and folders on the desktop…? Ugh windows.

This gentleman is so excited about this feature and I love it 😆👍🏾. Thank you for your time, that was so informative 🙏🏾

So it allows for (1) different open programs, and (2) different backgrounds. But, the icons are all the same...utterly ridiculous. It's different desktops ONLY if ALL desktop attributes can be changed including icons, taskbar, widgets, etc., everything but maybe the start menu (a whole other topic).

I wish we can also have different Icons for specific Desktops like Gaming Icons for Gaming Desktop Working Icons for Working Desktops. Its just like switching apps :)

Mac has had spaces (what they call multiple desktops) for roughly 15 years. It has a very nice UX with swiping on the touch pad.

Thanks. I avoided this feature for a long time. It left a bad taste in my mouth when Microsoft badly implemented it in Windows 8 (or 10?). It seems they improved it. It was confusing at first and used a gesture that was easy to accidentally trigger.

Seems like again almost completely useless. Unless you can fully customize the desktop with files, shortcuts, widgets and the whole experience it's just gonna be weak surrogate of a true multiple desktop experience.

is there a way for different desktops to have different sets of desktop shortcuts . It will be very useful as my desktop screen is filled with shortcuts and files . I would like to separate them to different desktops . Thank you for the video btw

Can your layouts in each desktop be saved so that if you reboot the computer your apps/file will reopen in the same layout?

Awesome addition compared to Win 10 where the "virtual setup" wasn't persistent!

Multiple desktops is a good feature, but I really miss the timeline that you got with Windows 10, when you hit Windows Key + Tab.

Every time I change one desktop wallpaper, it changes the other one as well. Is there some setting I need to change?

thanks. this helped. i didn't realize I could move windows from one to the next!! I use trading software that opens multiple windows..I've learned that if I SWITCH desktops WHILE the different windows are loading then I have "different windows of the same program on different desktops" which is ANNOYING. Thanks again!!

The animation transitions are nicer on windows 10. It mimics macs smoothness. Win 11 just pops looking janky. Note: on Won 10 using the Keyboard shortcuts you don't loose the animation transition like if swiping with the track pad, you do on Win 11

Maybe I'm not understanding, but how is this better than just having a single desktop with a bunch of open windows and just switching among the windows?

As many people comment. The lack of full desktop switching. Its not very useful. Kinda like being at an actual desk. But when you use the other desk your bringing everything else over with you. I can easily just alt tab between programs. For single monitor users it does give some real estate. For dual monitors in becomes completely pointless.

Hopefully in the future it gets more features. It would be great to have my casual/gaming desktop switch to my work desktop rather than switching across accounts.

Is there a way to automatically launch a set of desktops with a set of applications (e.g. ~~desktop template manager/launcher)? Would be useful on reboot.
Maybe some 3rd party extension of this multi-desktop functionality?
