Hi Brandon! I'm 80 years old and still love the game and play it. But in the 46 years I've been playing I STILL DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING! Thanks for your lessons. I have learned a lot about taking care of my pool cue.

I found 1 particular type called (hard grip) Zen Premium cue tips. So does it has the both effect? Usable for jump, Massé, spin, and break and straight?

With soft tips it's easier to control short distance shots and put controlled spin on it.
With hard tips you shoot longs distance draw shots with less effort.

Hey Brandon thanks for all the videos I've been watching allot of them and found them to be very helpful. My skill level for 8 ball Billiards is around beginner-intermediate level and recently I've decided to invest in a cue stick. I've read up on some of the stuff about the different attributes for cue sticks and brands but I was wondering if you had any recommendations. Thanks again and I hope you continue to make more videos. :)

you are right... Soft tips can throw off your line if you're getting adjusted to it but you can always just practice and get used to it. But just picking a soft tip like Kamui, Moori, Sniper or any of those your stroke will need to be very precise. Harder tips make for good accuracy but sometimes not the best english but that's all dependent on the shooters stroke not the tip necessarily.

So a soft tip, since it grabs the ball more, would be better for playing deep screws (that's draw in American)?

Some people think that because a soft tip stays in contact with the CB slightly longer, a soft tip can apply more spin. Also, the contact time is still extremely small with both a soft and hard tip: close to a thousandth of a second. Assuming the CB speed is the same in all comparisons, even though the peak force will be different, more with the shorter contact time, the amount of momentum (linear and angular) transferred to the CB will still be the same because the sum of force over contact time is the same in both cases. The CB doesn't move much (translation or spin) during the extremely small contact time, so the only significant factor is the tip contact point at impact.

A hard tip will always produce more english weather it be left, right, top or bottom. Check out the articles by Bob Jewett, there are many. The Jacksonville Project is a good place to start. If you look around enough you might find the slow motion documentation on the cue tip hitting the cue ball studies he did.

Hey Brandon, This is one of those rare times that I comment on these videos....mostly because of the trolls out there. I just wanted to say Thank You. I have always loved the game of pool but never played with the goal to I saw a video of yours. Now I have seen most if not all and the improvements have shown. Be it a bar box or full size it all works. Pool has been my release..my zen if you will. Thanks for making this complex game so very simple.

For the past few years Ive used Kamui soft tips and then just tried and ultra skin medium tip on this new to me "Douglas" cue. Boy the english of the Kamui is great but the Ultra Skin is almost just as good and I realy Didnt think that a Medium tip could get so much spin! Boy was I wrong

Ey Brandon, is it safe to assume if im using a soft tip, if i hit the ball slightly off center it will create more sideways spin as opposed to a medium tip?

What brand of tip would you recommend? I'd like a medium to hard. You ok with fast glues now instead of the old standard white glue?
