In case anyone having difficulty understanding this i'll give you one more example...
"He used to get so hard, but now that he is over 50 he hardly gets hard"
I hope you understood the difference.. Thank you.. I love helping people.

I disagree with the way you're teaching the difference in usage between these two words, since they have different grammatical functions. Sadly, with the so called 'communicative method', Cambridge English schools are always overlooking the binary principle of oppositions (grammatical in this case). What is easier for a learner to commit to memory half a dozen of lexical meanings for both 'hard' and 'hardly' or just learn one rule saying that "we use 'hardly' after the verb because it is an adverb ending in -ly"? Similarly, the word "hard" is an adjective and it can go before the noun or after the linking verbs.

For older version, though I, as always, gave Sarah my thumbs up!

I've come across a phrase in a novel saying "it wouldn't keep a flea from a black cat". What's it suppose to mean?
