In the process of franchising my business . And I’ve recently realized something not so great about myself- ive been a poor judge of character. I realize this bc I was anxious over the outcome of hiring bad employees and having to start over, and wouldn’t you know it- i hired bad employees and had to start over.

So I went back and called the most inexperienced candidate and asked her a question I knew she didn’t know the answer too and she said something surprising “idk but I can learn”. It was so different and honest from the usual BS I hired her on the spot and she’s been a great employee for over a year and is playing a key role in expansion.

Being anxious led me to fail bc I would latch onto the best pitch so i felt like I was making a good decision.

This applies to blue collar guys, like me, also. I'm a truck driver and often anxiety and pressure is high. Day to day, I focus on my stoic education in all kinds of situations. Since I've began reading stoic writers in April 2023, everything has begun to change. My life flows and I'm very grateful.

Clear words...thank you. It's nice to hear this aloud instead of always in your head.

I like Stoicism, but I like Taoism even more. Combined they can be effective, I find. Mindfulness has helped me with anxiety a lot, learning to let the thoughts go. The book "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels has been helping me a lot this month. It's so important to train the mind to simply be still.

Always wise words that bring me back to the moment I'm actually in, which is right now.

First let me preface by saying, Thank you for bringing this philosophy to light where it would otherwise be lost… 🙏🙏
There are two contradicting motions here, one is let go and focus on the present to lessen imagined troubles, the other is imagine every potential negative outcome so that it is not a surprise.

How do you navigate these?

This video is useful, if you have something again to worry about. I have. This is useful.

Yes, if you can do something about it, why worry?

If you can't do anything about it, why worry?

Everything will work out with enough time.

I let go and trust all corks out for my greatest good 👍

The hard part is taking sometimes contradictory Stoic sayings and turning them into action. There's memento mori but there's also not catastrophizing everything, instead being prepared and rolling with the punches as they come.
