Stoic Advice For Hard Days

In every way the deck was stacked against Epictetus.

2,000 years ago in Hierapolis, he was born into slavery. He wasn’t even given a name–Epictetus just means “acquired one.”

He was tortured. The fruits of his labor were stolen. His body was abused. Like a horse that was ridden into the ground and then put down. Later he was unfairly exiled.

He went through unimaginable adversity and difficulty and yet he triumphed.

"Circumstances don't make the man. They only reveal him to himself" it's possibly one of the best life quote ever and many people will never grasp its true meaning

"We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them." - Epictetus 📖

"Circumstances don't make the man. They only reveal him to himself."
What I understand from this :
when you face any situation, the way you react and respond to that situation shows yourself who you really are.
You face a powerful enemy - do you run? Do you freeze? Or do you fight?
Your decisions expose your thoughts, and your actions set them in stone.

No matter how much it hurts, no matter how you feel, no matter what doubts you have, keep moving forward.
I tell myself this every day to not lose what I have going for me

Don't demand that things happen as you wish, but wish that they happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

Fixed my car this morning, got work today and am rotating my wife’s tires later. I am blessed and this account helps me see that.

I left a cult a year ago. Epictetus’ writings have been very helpful. I’ve lost friends, and family. These challenges/ loses I see them as an opportunity. Thank you to the community of stoics, who have given me strength. Much love ❤️

Stoic philosophy literally saved my life... I am so grateful these stories have been written... I am so grateful for my brothers who share these moments for all of us. Thank you.

I've spent many years unhappy in what I now consider volunteered depression. I left the mother of my child in a rage fit and spiraled out of control in drugs and alcohol. Ended up getting a bad DUI and many charges added from that night but as I've spent more time with myself away from distraction and in a cell, programs... Ect... I wouldn't say I'm out of the woods yet but I've come to realize that it wasn't the world that was my problem. I was the problem in this world and I'm trying to take or day by day and just become a better person for not only my daughter but for myself and her mother and for God. I've been blessed with many things in life and I know that I can't take back some of the things I've done and things I didn't do. But I can get better and I will get better. I strive to be in a position one day where I can help those in need like I have found myself. I wouldn't consider myself a good man but I know I'm not evil. I'm just trying to find the line I need to walk which challenges me to prove that I am getting better and I know this walk will be far from glamorous. I pray for those who find themselves lost and broken and I just want you to know that you can find yourself again you just have to face yourself first and that hurts... A lot. But I'd rather suffer to become great than to suffer by never amounting to anything. God bless. Keep going. Be thankful and give more than you take in this world.

Epictetus has been my role model and favorite philosopher, thank you Daily Stoic. This was an amazing video.

I would much rather hear Ryan say it. Actors sound like…well, they’re acting. Ryan’s authenticity gives the message greater value.

I was blown away by this animation quality, especially Epictetus walking and the realistic cloth as well as the realistic lighting!

I can't thank you enough for this short video, it really gives me hope, after I was about to give-up, I have been listening to these 3 minutes non-stop on repeat for the last 2 days, when you are in the dark you don't have the heart or the patience to listen to hours long videos, this 3 minute video was so impactful, I started getting into stoicism and now I'm reading Epictetus' books.
the Voiceover, the animation, the script were perfect,

Thank you for saving my life!
