Migraine and Tinnitus

In this interview Dr Teixido reviews the relationship between migraine and tinnitus. Specifically he discussed how most tinnitus sufferers are unfortunately told there is nothing to be done and to learn to live with it. There is good evidence that for persons with migraine, hearing loss and tinnitus that migraine management can reduce the annoyance of tinnitus by reducing loudness and fluctuations in volume. Volume fluctuations and changes in the character of the tinnitus are signs that migraine may be at work. The interviewer is Dr Brian Worden from Alleviate Tinnitus Therapy in California.

Ty for this. I have migraines which morphed into vestibular migraines when I got older. I also have intermittent tinnitus: ringing, roaring, wooshing. I also have tempura muscle flutter when my ear hears a low decimal central fan. I have bppv w nystagmus with certain head movements. BPPV is easy to fix w epley. Right now I feel dizzy just looking at the tv or reading. This persistent low level intermittent dizziness is new and it started after a recent migraine. My head pain migraines w dizzy are not frequent. But this last migraine I’m still feeling light dizziness even tho the migraine is finished. I once had aura w no head pain. Sometimes in thin I have a painless migraine bc I get the predome symptoms: yawning, tired, congestion in the nose, slight sensitivity to light and sound. But no head pain. Oh and every few lonths I get this odd ice pick right temple pain that lasts 3-5 seconds but comes on all day and night - like a hundred times and then poof- it’s gone in three days. So weird.

Migraines run in my family.
My migraines are hormonal - first three days of menstruation, and always on the right side.

I get an odd peripheral nerve things in my right side of face. I think it’s recovery from my anaphylactic shock
that I had from Fluoroquinolone antibiotic Levaquin like 15 years ago. It left me w with odd sensations from 15 years- those odd skin crawly or vibration or head sensations on legs, foot, tummy, right side face are mostly gone for the most part - by now. This is likely separate thing.

Wow, me too! So many of the symptoms Ive been having correspond perfectly with this, from the new visual migraines to the balance disorder, the recurrent suicidal ideation, the tinnitus. Mind blown!

This is extremely helpful. I will comment more later as I sort this out. I am a migraine sufferer with balance disorder and new tinnitus after migraine . I alsi have had gut issues with food sensitivies all my lufe. Notice the gut connection since this last headache that ai say broke my beain. I also have chronic pain fromvan injury. Crazy!

I wonder if Dr. Teixido has any opinions on hyperacusis (decreased sound tolerance, sensitivity to sound) in addition to tinnitus. Phonophobia (sound sensitivity) is common in migraine as well as photophobia (light sensitivity). What happens when tinnitus, hyperacusis, phonophobia, and photophobia all occur together at the same time? What is the connection between these audio and visual symptoms?
