The solder on the ones i've used IS supposed to melt into the bare metal wires and apparently also melts at a lower temp than standard solder so that it melts with a heat gun when shrinking the ends

if the conductor (in this case the copper wire) doesn't get hot enough to melt the solder itself, it's considered a "cold" solder joint. In other words, when soldering, the conductor is heated up to the point where it melts the solder into it, for proper solder joint. This is according to the IPC 7712 soldering certification manual. These little connectors, really don't create a proper solder joint.

These are junk and will fail in about a year. Not enough solder, You need a strong mechanical bond before soldering.
