The Non-Canon Expert looks at the Sith philosophy when it came to the Jedi conceptualization of "balance" in the Force, explaining why they were completely skeptical of this idea of balance and why it was fiercely rejected by the end of the Rule of Two era through the conclusions of Darth Plagueis.

This is a Legends story for Darth Plagueis and the Sith Order with information primarily found in the Legends novel "Star Wars: Darth Plagueis" by James Luceno and in the Book of Sith. I hope that you enjoy it!

Sith prefer micro-transactions to unbalance the Force

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion I gain strength.
Through strength I gain power.
Through power I gain victory.
Through victory my chains are broken.

Jedi: Bring balance to the force by flooding it with light.

Darth Plaguies: I don’t think you know what that word means

I'll always be more biased to Darth Malgus's view of The Force being that it strove for conflict and that without it, everything would wither and die off. This conflict drives improvement and betterment of environments, societies, and people's. Now this concept can be thrown off wack if you like pulling a Tarkin and blowing up planet since that's just genocide and that is not conflict. That's is condemning a race to annihilation which the Will of the Force will take care of unless you become an extension of its will. Which Malgus firmly believed after the Sacking of Coruscant and the New Empire Revolution he instigated. Darth Malgus was definitely more effective in the field than in an office but this by no means infers he's stupid or ignorant of politics. Man can pull on you with the whole court if he has to to make a point. But had Darth Marr been the Sith Emperor and Malgus, his Wrath and Supreme Military Commander, the Sith Empire would have never loss a war or conflict...ever 😎

If they came to balance within each other, then I think a greater force would attempt to kill them.

"If one is to understand the great mystery, one must study all it’s aspects, not just the dogmatic narrow view of the Jedi. If you wish to become a complete and wise leader, you must embrace a larger view of the force" - Darth Sidious.

I love many of the Jedi Knights & Masters of the Republic era but my goodness they were very self deluded. The practitioners of the dark SIDE of the force needs to be destroyed for balance?! Let go of everything you fear to loose... except for the Jedi Order itself. I love them but but they are just a touch sanctimonious xx

So, the SIth rejected the Jedi idea of "balance" because it attempted to control the will of the force, so instead they attempted to....control the force? How are those goals separate? Both strove to alter the state of the force to do what they wanted.

The key to the balance question is to examine why Anakin Skywalker was conceived. At the exact same time as Anakin's conception, Plagueis and Palpatine were manipulating midichlorians to create life, and in this attempting to become living Gods. Both were a complete perversion of the Force that would have drastic consequences on reality itself (as we see in the Mortis Arc). So, Anakin Skywalker and his bloodline was created to deal with this problem.
In regards to the Jedi Order, I feel their destruction had less to do with the prophecy and more so to do with their very real inability to change with the times, and to be quite honest, really shitty luck.
Think about it, if Palpatine was destroyed in RotS, what happens? Considering they were so very nearly destroyed by their hubris, the Jedi and the Republic would reform. They would let go their strict adherence to outdated traditions and really stupid policies (I'm looking at you, Ruusan Reformation), and adopt new ways to prevent something like the Clone Wars and Palpatine's rise from ever happening again. You don't need cosmic intervention to fix a mortal institution.
Because of this, the issue of the balance needing to be reset was not the issue of the Sith or Jedi having too much power. it was instead two specific individuals who wanted to enslave the Force itself.

It's important to remember that no matter how philosophical or sophisticated the Sith get in their claims, the core of their beliefs always, always, ALWAYS comes down to others suffering for the benefit of the Sith. The Jedi, even when misguided or overly dogmatic, desire a galaxy of peace and happiness for all beings, something that is simply unimaginable under the Sith.

I also find it interesting that by the time of the plagiues /sidious era they didn't exactly follow the "rule of two" as while being an apprentice to plagiues sidious had an apprentice of his own in maul

I don't know if I know it right but, all the time when the Sith or other dark side users strike at the Jedi it is at the time when the force in the galaxy tilt too much toward the light side.
