Aerial footage from N&O visual journalist Travis Long shows extensive damage Biltmore Village received from flooding of the Swannanoa River after the remnants of Hurricane Helene caused torrential rainfall in western North Carolina over the weekend.

Was driving around last night, came from Charlotte made the 2 hour drive with cases of water to hand out from my truck with my buddies, went through biltmore village and down riverside drive and got some picture of the o rileys and those other unrecognizable business, I and to come see it for myself, it's diffrent when you see pictures but to actually go and see it for myself and the smell of it made me want to cry, I came back last night and got home at 12, me and my friends were joking around on the way up there but after we saw what we saw we had a quiet ride back, I'll never forget the realness of what I saw even in the dark, and to know there is so much more destruction i didn't even see.

➡️ This was NOT Asheville's first catastrophic flood- 1916 they had a near identical one. Asheville is located on a floodplain next to a river valley. I hope they do NOT rebuilt here because it is only a matter of time when this will happen again. Prevent another tragedy🙏🏼
