How To Use Google Maps Walking Directions (Updated)

How to Find Starting Direction. You are in a town you don't know at all with no sense of direction so how do you know which direction to start walking in?
Instructions:-
Hold your phone vertically in front of you.
Slowly turn 360 degrees if necessary until the Point of the Blue Arrow is roughly Pointing in
the Direction of the Blue Dots.
Now start walking in the direction.
It doesn't matter if the map appears upside down.

The trick is to slowly turn until the Point of the Blue Arrow is Pointing in the direction of the Blue Dots.

Practice by using Google maps directions to go somewhere that you already know the route

When I'm really stuck or confused I just walk in any direction and see if I'm eating up blue dots or creating more

Sometimes unfortunately you won't have a good enough signal.

Thanks for the clear info. My problem is that the arrow DOESN'T MOVE when I turn so I often can't figure out which direction to go. I've checked my iPhone's google map settings and there's nothing there that seems to control it or unlock it. This has always been the case on my phone through multiple updates of the iOS and of the google maps app. Am I missing something?
