Travel is 100x more convenient (and safe) if you know how to download Google maps offline on iPhone and Android (it’s basically the same):
You can navigate without roaming or hassling with a local data SIM card
You can navigate UNTIL you’re able to get your hands on a local SIM
You can navigate in places with no service — road trips, national parks, remote islands, etc

A tip, get a good hiking/ back country app as a backup to his suggestions; they work (usually) anywhere and they show trails and roads.Just need a clear view of the sky. I hike/ski in the Colorado wilderness all year. Just BC skied 4 miles to a beautiful lake at 10, 800'.

Please do always do this before going on your trip especially going hiking alone. You dont get to use it if you dont want to, but it will come in handy when you are lost in the woods. It can actually save your life.

travel before the Internet because widely use (before 2000s) was so much better. Yes, using maps can be very confusing, but sometimes getting lost opens up new vistas and opportunities if you do not have an itinerary.

Google maps does not seem to allow for saving multiple addresses imported by phone xcel. You have to type destination one by one. It is useless for those who wants to plan for visiting multiple destinations
