Can you be a 'Half-Vegan'? Find out my thoughts...

I am a vegetarian, but I wouldn't refer to myself as a half-vegan even though my DIET is around 80% in-line with a vegan one. I explain my reasons in this video, and I'd love to know what you think too!

I'm both a vegetarian and a vegan myself.

I love yogurt and cheeses but I won't touch eggs or milk. I used to eat eggs and I always felt guilty and sick. drinking milk made me vomit.
Soy milk and other soy products are a blessing.

I really like your point of view! I'm vegan and I'd prefer it if other people didn't call themselves half vegan. Either you share the ethical and environmental foundations of veganism and you're 100% vegan (or at least try your best). Or you don't. You can't just chose to be half. Like you said, it's a conscious decision based on a very deep foundational belief and associated with a lot of effort.
Having that said, I totally respect everyone's personal choice!

I was vegetarian for 5 years or so, and recently have become vegan (literally in the past week!) I would never have described myself as a 'half vegan' even though like you I ate a largely vegan diet before anyway.

Saying that, I appreciate and respect anyone who makes an effort to eat in an ethically/environmentally conscious way, whatever 'label' their diet has. I would never criticise someone's food choices (unprovoked or aggressively anyway, open minded debates aside) or look down on them. Like you say it's so personal and circumstantial, and everybody's on a different journey.

When I see food that isn't vegan I don't see exactly what your friend does- I have to think to myself that putting animals through that isn't worth it for me.

Nice video, I am a vegan myself and I find the concept of a 'half-vegan' a bit strange because it's quite all or nothing. If you truly believe in eating a vegan diet you would be a full vegan, but if you're a half vegan, in my opinion it would probably be because you want to be a bit healthier or you don't fully understand it yet ! Don't get me wrong, I think baby steps are great and having more vegan food that not is still making a difference! I really recommend watching 'Gary Yourofsky's best speech' if you want to for a more in-depth evaluation of the moral and ethical aspects of veganism rather than just 'go vegan for the animals'. I hope this made sense and I love your videos :) x

I'm vegeterian as well, the thing I don't like about the vegans on youtube is they don't seem to be much inspirational to me to go vegan. It's almost like they are scaring me to go vegan. I don't think i will ever go vegan because I can't stay vegan, I can't afford vegan food, and I'm just not happy being vegan, I miss dairy products, not so much eggs. Are you ever thinking about going vegan???

Thank you for clearing up that veganism is a lifestyle not a diet :) I was vegetarian for a week before going vegan because I realised I was still supporting the meat industry and it broke my heart, watch on YouTube why vegetarians should go vegan. I'm also from the UK, join the Facebook vegan groups if you haven't already :) good luck lots of love

I am trying to minimizing the amount of animal product in my diet, including milk and butter. First of all animal product is not that important for our health, a little bit will be fine, I have no more than 100ml milk per day (for cappuccino) and I do not eat cheese. Second if you get to know how much female cows suffer from producing milk in their whole life, you would not think it is better than killing an animal. But I still eat some meat becasue my doctor told me to do so, just no more than 500g per week.
