In this video, we’re going to talk about plant-based proteins. I typically think a person should have about 20-25g of protein per meal. The idea is to have lower amounts of sugary foods and higher amounts of protein if you’re a vegan. Download the chart I put together for more plant-based protein sources.

Plant-based vegan protein sources:

• Lentils — 1 Tbs = 1.1g
• Tofu — ½ cups = 10g
• Quinoa — ½ cups = 8g
• Hemp — 4 Tbs = 12g
• Sunflower Seeds — ½ cup = 6g
• Pumpkin Seeds — ½ cup = 6g
• Chia Seeds — 1oz. = 5g
• Mixed Nuts — ½ cup = 14g
• Almond Butter — 1 Tbs = 3.4g
• Hummus — 1 Tbs = 1.2g
• Tempe — ½ cup = 15g

Thanks for sharing Dr Berg! We eat all of the foods you've mentioned and we've never felt better. Love the fact that plant foods cause no inflammation within the body like animal foods so it's perfect for us athletes. ☺🌱💪

This helps to show that green leafy vegetables aren't the top providers of plant-based protein? For example, where is kale which is supposed to be the new beef. You have nutritional yeast on your plant-based protein chart which many people don't consider vegan. It would be helpful if you suggest that vegans track their food intake to see how much protein, fat, and carbs they really are consuming. Veganism is a high carb-centric lifestyle. Most vegans consumes around 10% of their diet in proteins.

I love your vids, I have to say I come often. I came particularly for this one in hopes you mention Hemp seeds. You see I have a dilemma here. I'm fully aware of the impact and how amazing hemp is, what gets me everyday is looking at vegans and watching how little do they care for the most medicinal plant in the world. I'm by far amazed on how such a plant goes ignored.

Nettle leaf powder is around 33% protein, depending on where the plant is harvested (best nettle grows near water sources, and in the garden)

I love how you're so grounded and well rounded! Thanks so much for making this video! Legumes are very high in protein (and iron too)...especially black beans! Is there a reason you didn't include them? Are they bad in some way and it's not your first choice? Thanks :-)

I find the measurement of 'cup' to be very difficult to understand as it seems to be different for every food source. My attempts to find out how many grams of spinach for example, in one cup has given me responses varying from 25gr - 200gr.!!! It would be easier just to use grams, or if you really insist, in ounces, as at least I can calculate how much that is!

Can you please talk about a fully raw vegan diet? There are many people that have converted from many years like 20 years or more and not have health issues and some look younger and others order than their actual age, they also eat a lot of fruits, so what is your opinion?
