This is a hidnacap boss, you're fighting 3 bosses at the same time:

The horse dude
The camera
The frame rate

Quick tip: if you run out of flasks, you can go to the teardrop scarab in the forest and refill your flasks, the boss won't follow you and it's health won't reset, so you can go back and resume as if nothing happened

It's a lesser known fact, but actually Tree Sentinel installed landmines underground that can be triggered by a detonator installed on the protusions of his shield.

I know this, cause everytime he slammed his shield, I instantly exploded with full health from 4 meters away

Fighting him reminds me of Nameless King…heavy damage attacks with weird/delayed timing. It takes a while to get used to their patterns.

I’ve died to this guy more than any other ds3 boss

Fought this guy for hours on end. The first faze was easy enough for me. I learned his patterns and timing pretty quickly and became pretty comfortable dodging them. But that jumping shield attack in his 2nd faze had me stumped. After even more hours of dying on repeat I finally had to swallow my pride and go look at a tutorial. The timing and AOE of that shield attack is insane. I hate it. Lol but I refuse to progress further into the game without beating Leaf. Yep. That’s his name. We’ve been fighting for so long that I ended up giving him a name. We’re best of buds now, and when this is all over we’re gonna go out for a beer together. Good luck everyone.

It’s good to see someone really care about not cheesing. Elden ring is already really difficult, I’ve been stuck on Tree for quite some time now but I can’t give into cheesing lol

He got help when Im fighting him. First the arena where you fight him, Second the Sweet 20 FPS dips.

I would argue that this fight is much more enjoyable and cinematic if you do it on horseback, it also teaches you some basics of horseback boss fighting, like not holding down the dodge/run button the entire time and instead using it to actually dodge his attacks. Would highly recommend trying this boss on your horse.

Thanks for the tips man. I’ve been obsessing over beating him instead of just going ahead and start make my way into the game, this will definitely help🤘🏾

He didn't really go into depth about his two most dangerous moves. The biggest danger (if you're low level) is the horse bash on his right side. NEVER attack after the first dodge unless it's the very long reaching ones. You can try playing around with fire and guess, but for me he'd do it constantly or at weird moments and it would always catch me mid-recovery or it would hit me even if i reacted. These will almost catch you on reaction since Elden Ring dodging is slightly more delayed than DS3 with more i-frames. You can dodge it if you predict it, but it's almost impossible to dodge by reaction or while in recovery.

The giant slam is almost impossible to dodge if you are on the backside of the shield. make sure you are in front of him when you are to his left, otherwise the persistent aoe will always hit you even if u i-frame it perfectly. The only other way to escape it is by sprinting behind as soon as you see him raise his shield. You can get away only if you are unlocked, be careful because if he shield bashes instead you'll get hit.

I will add, as a sorcerer, you can climb up the church of Elleh walls and cast spells down on him. If you only have pebble, this will take awhile, but with rock sling it's not so bad. He will destroy some of the church walls, so you may need to adjust position as the fight goes on.

I actually can’t even attempt this fight as I get frame drops the second he starts charging me doesn’t happen anywhere else but in this fight.
