This is great advice. Unfortunately, my guess is 90% of car payments are more than 10% of take home pay.

Ugh. Monthly ball and chain. If I don't have enough money available to buy outright, no-go. I have 3 "cheap" cars. One newer Chevy Trax LTZ, and two older Hondas, an Odyssey Touring and a Honda Fit Sport. I could keep this trio, but want to replace the Fit with a new/er manual performance hatch...maybe Honda Civic Si, Hyundai Veloster N, Mazda3 Turbo AWD, if Nissan makes a hot hatch with their new Sentra...not sure yet, but have plenty of time to compare and shop since I don't have enough dough at the moment to buy anything outright. Fun summer car. Boring winter car. Trusty old camper van.

Or how about my apartment mate who bought a 2006 Chevy Tahoe 288, 000 for $4995 cash 💵 but now can’t afford putting tires and new belts, an replace the cats. The repairs alone are about as much as she paid for the car. Don’t forget about people who do this .
