What makes it worse is he says ‘it happens’ and not a ‘I am sorry’

Achara's opinion is bang on. She gets the whole plot really well.

Why didn't he slap his boss in anger? Because he can't. Not even 1 slap.

Achara is spot on.

The lead character was ignoring herself and focusing on her husband, household, family... sacrificing herself in the process. The slap made her realize, lack of love, and all the unfair treatment.

This movie addresses almost everything which went against "Kabir Singh"

Jaby, the whole point is that the slap made her realise that there’s a lot more wrong and unbalanced in the relationship that came to the fore with the slap. The fact that he disrespected her physically meant that he disrespected her mentally and in the relationship already. We need to define our boundaries of respect before we enter a relationship so that it never has to come to physical violence. Hope this helps 😊

The story is not just about a slap, as stated in the trailers the slap reminded her of all the things that she ignored all this time and this can been seen that his husband was just dominant and there was an ego in play, he didn't let her go he filled under the law to forcefully get her back by hook or by crook, painting her that she is not in right mind giving proves like no one saw in the party any act of violence. So this topic not just white or black it's about man ego the society around men how he didn't really loved her and when he slapped her he only wants her back to correct his image in society.

"India has the least divorce rate" some people think that its a good thing like our marriages last compared to other cultures aka its better but the reality is far from it "lowest divorce rate" means that the relationship is not amongst equals, it has unhealthy power dynamics, one is compromising and suppressing way more than other or both are extremely unhappy but are more worried about prejudice. This needs to change, the"divorcee" stigma should go away. This movie apart from domestic violence covers this too & i am glad

The point of showing the maid's incident is to bring the possibility of recurrence of domestic violence in a relationship in to light because if someone doesn't oppose a wrongdoing for first time, it just gives power to the oppressor to repeat it in worse forms

The moment you slap your partner, you just lost all the respect. And a relationship without respect is just dead meat. What is the point of two people living together if they don't respect anymore

The thing is when a husband gets frustrated he can slap, misbehave, use filthy words with his wife and everyone says "it happens, you need to adjust."

But by any chance a wife gets frustrated and says something bad, she is a very bad girl and a woman who breaks the marriage!

I freaking hate this bloody mentality.

I think the movie is delving into emotional abuse, which sometimes takes a turn towards physical abuse. In Indian society, emotional abuse is so normalised, that a slap sometimes is taken as an extension of that emotional abuse. Even a woman's family rarely supports her if she is vocal about any kind of emotional abuse.
For Tapsee's character the slap must have brought up a realisation of ongoing emotional abuse, which perhaps was ignored earlier by her. For ages since financial independence lay predominantly in the hands of the husband, wives have so very often given into a lot, due to a lack of financial security & family/societal support.

The 'perfect' life initially Jaby is talking about is what the problem was. Achara saw it differently. That's the difference between a man's view and a woman's view. Often women realize after something big happens how unfairly they were treated. Even in their good moments, they were living for someone else. Probably that is what Tapsee's character wanted to say at the end. And yes, it's just about divorce I guess. Though it should domestic violence too.

Though "THAPPAD" generally symbolizes violence, here its more of a wake-up call to all those unfair things she was ignoring.
