The fact that one girl's story inspired everyone from her lawyer to the maid in her house, shows that a drop is all it takes to make a ripple!

" Just a slap, par nahi maar sakta".

People who said that Amrita was making too much of a fuss out of it and that all was her drama I wanna ask them if Vikram's mother was the one at the party to pull him would he slap her too? And if not why? Is it because he respects his mother? Then why can't he give the same respect to his wife?

We don't slap our Parents, Teachers Or Bosses When We Get Angry... Because we know our limits... But if we slap our wives... Then that clears that we think this is ok to slap our vives... And we know what...? that is wrong... 👋

The last dialogue is very deep

"That one slap made me realized, the other unfair things, i used to always ignored"

The kind of support amrita's father gave her is something that every women requires and that's what makes the movie more beautiful.

Domestic violence starts from one thappad only....when the officer said u cant beat your higher officals to show anger but u can beat your wife. That was good dialogue

Being a guy, I can share my own view!
I am an intern and studied in a government medical college.
There were instances where women used to beg us not to discharge because they were too scared to go back again to their husband's.
Even after four or five deliveries when we advice to go tubectomy they say my husband doesn't want that to happen.
There were many cases where we had seen cigarette burns in her groins while examining.... It always boils me up, ki what right does the marriage give the guy to think he owns the women like a property.
The fault is we as a society fail to say it's okay to be a divorcee and to find love again and u can stand on ur own instead of saying that's the end of life! How so ever strong the law might be unless we change things are gonna remain same

Edit: I am just overwhelmed by the positivity in the comment section. I just don't know what to say, but maybe if we all collectively think positively and help each other instead of judging others, there might be a day where woman doesn't have to think twice before she has to do something right

My father supported me too. And i got divorced. It was tough. But I managed. Handled lots of criticisms. Cz I didn't have a 'solid' reason in the eyes of others. I demanded respect from my husband. And I was asking too much according to them.
Alhamdulillah i got married again last week. Again arranged marriage. But my current husband respects me, values me, knows my worth, appreciates my good qualities.
I was doubtful first, will I get a man who respects me, ever. But time proved that I also deserve true happiness.
So all the women out there. Pls don't be scared of the judgemental society around us. They'll never allow us to be happy.

Fun Fact - Bhushan Kumar (T Series) produced both Thappad and Kabir Singh.

I think the "thappad" was more a metaphor throughout the movie. It actually portrayed this sense of entitlement, the patriarchy. The hota hai, chalta hai attitude, move on. The indifference and the lack of empathy shown by her mother-in-law right after the incident, by himself - justifying his actions as an outcome of anger and disappointment. Her brother being ditto. I don't know if anybody else noticed, but the husband never apologized or showed remorse for that incident until the very end. And that was the real "thappad".

And the most common teachings "beta thoda toe sehna padega"
"Divorcee ka tag lag jayega"
These two are the biggest reason most Indian women live in an abusive relationship for their entire lives.
This mentality needs to be changed.

I loved it when her dad realised that even though he thought he was a good person and husband, he was lacking somewhere. He lashes out on his son when he misbehaves slightly with his fiancee. He knew that right then if he didn't stop his own son, he'd become comfortable with that kind of behaviour and in future, someone else's daughter would suffer what his daughter faced! Bravo to the writers!

Even if it’s just a slap
Even if she forgives him
A woman can never forget it and go back to loving and respecting him the same way.

Self- Respect matters the most, domestic violence doesn't starts randomly... Its start from just a slap, just a abuse.... Ignorance of small things led to big one
