Whenever I do lessons on dream jobs, at least 3 girls in my class will say flight attendant. I never knew why before now 😅

The permanent smile surgery sounds like a dystopian scifi feature. Even Bitch Planet didn't think of that one.

The entire human existence in Korea is "a beauty contest" 😂

Imagine being in a terrifying emergency situation on a plane and every hostess you turn to has a permanent surgically crafted smile on her face

My mom was a flight attendant when she was like 19-20...she had to train really hard and beat 300 applicants. Sadly, she got into an accident and for a while her face wasn't the same so she couldn't be a flight attendant anymore. The good part is that she ended up going to Law School and became a judge😀

Solar of Mamamoo went to flight attendant school, but found out that she was too short to be one. Fortunately for the music world.

I was at an airport in Korea and a Japanese family was asking around to a korean flight attendant. The flight attendant asked if they needed help in korean and when they answered in Japanese he skillfully switched right up to speaking fluent Japanese. That little moment just completely wowed me.

Kinda terrifying to me that someone would get cosmetic surgery for a job in hospitality where people will generally treat you terribly (not saying customers should, but as a fast food worker, customers are getting worse and worse and I doubt that flight attendants have it any better)

My friend in Korea was a K-line babe for 4years from 21-25 ... She got it because she was 5’9, spoke English/Mandarin/Japanese/Korean, and was drop-dead Miss Universe gorgeous

In Korea, since 2019 it's been illegal to ask for a photo with your application. It's part of a "blind hiring" law.

But in job forums I'm on, every employer tries asking asking for it anyway.

At the same time, European airlines are welcoming older applicants (40 and above) with open arms, because due to their life experience tend to be more self secure and more resolute in tough situations (unruly passengers etc.) compared to younger candidates. I'm not saying these Korean ladies are not professional, but mostly hiring by looks certainly is.

Anything is a reason for plastic surgery over there. Tuesday is a reason.

When I was flying to Jeju island on Korean Air, I was blown away by how gorgeous the flight attendants were! Could have sworn I boarded the wrong flight and instead boarded a flight where they were filming a K-drama based on flight attendants 😅

Female flight attendants are also considered 'prime wife material' by many in Korea. They are perceived to be well mannered, sophisticated, educated and well travelled. Also virtually all airlines in Korea have high beauty standards.
It's very common to see flight attendants get married to rich guys. After getting married most will become stay at home wives and their dream would be to live the luxury life of 'sa-mo-nim' (which is like madam or wife of a prestigious man).

I'm Chinese and my parents and grandparents tell my elder female cousin all the time that she'd make a great flight attendant as a way of saying how pretty she is and specifically how TALL and pretty she is, because flight attendants have height requirements. It'd be pretty hard to get a job if you're under 164 cm like I am. The thing is, my younger female cousin is actually taller than her sister and no one tells HER she'd make a great flight attendant...

Damn. In my country we treat flight attendants like people there to do a job, not objects that are there to stare at

Flight attendants in america, well depends on the airline, are just as hard to get the job. My airline i work for has a large number of applicants, only a handful get chosen, they get flown to dallas for training and can be denied mid training for something as simple as “not smiling enough.” Gotta love southwest lmao. My mom personally had to apply 4 times before getting the position and got denied for not being approachable enough and needing to smile more often.

But fr though, its a job that is extremely competitive and once you land it, most dont give it up because you will be LOADED when you retire. Definitely not worth plastic surgery over, at least here in america. The inflight jobs are VERY cultural and traditional but here in my company theyve relaxed on physical appearance standards, its more focused on charisma and physical ability to save a life now. As a girl who plans on being one once i hit the minimum age in america i understand the stress of wanting to stand out for it, but these ladies? So much respect for you guys over in korea! You all are stunning and i love seeing you guys in the airport!!!! <3
